Excelsior Evaluation - Advice please
#1
Hi,
I thought I would get the board's advice. You guys are great at this stuff.Big Grin
I have a dilemma.
I got my unofficial evulaltion from Excelsior for a liberal studies degree. I need a math/science 6 credits/quantative requirement, an upper division arts and science, a depth in the arts and sciences and the info lit. requirement.

I am almost done my math requirement from Aleks so that will solve the quantitative requirement and 3 credits of the math/science. I am still trying to decide on the easiest science. I am leaning toward Race to save the planet just on the grounds I feel I have some background on it or at least more then astronomySmile. Although if anyone has a great argument in favor of astronomy, I am willing to listen.

My problem is my second depth. I have 4 or possibly 5 classes I have taken in English at my previous schools so that should fill out most of it. That seems my best bet, since history and psy. I have just 2 classes each and philosophy -3 classes.

But I need 1 upper division in the 2nd depth, I believe, but that would also resolve the upper division arts and science requirement. What would be the cheapest way to do an upper level english class? Is there a way besides the GRE to test out of it, cheaply? I question myself pulling off enough points to get upper level. Excelsior testing seems expensive.

Or should I test myself out doing two history classes to resolve my 2nd depth problem? I would prefer history over psychology.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I don't think there are any upper division tests for the english requirement (unless you take a Ohio or TESC exam). The cheapest upper division course would probably be at LSU Independent Study. The courses are $251 I believe and you can finish in a month or two.

Or you can test out of the two history classes, which would be faster and cheaper (assuming you pass on the first try). You can fulfill that with DANTES exams.

I think the ECE American Dream does count as 3 credits in upper level English. Its a 6 credit exam, so you'd have some more that may also apply.

I think Astronomy is very doable. I had zero...zip knowledge of the subject. I thought it was interesting, not too deep, and not too broad. I haven't looked at the Race to Save the Planet, so I can't compare the two. I started to study Geology and.....blech...it was boring. Then I looked at Biology, too hard. So decided on Astronomy and it was a good decision.

Good luck on whatever you choose.
