Hello, I am a new member, however, I've been looking at these pages for several months. I've investigated a lot of the programs talked about here.
I'm wondering if someone can help me find an affordable (I know that's relative), but at least 13k and under. I would very much like to be called "Dr." in Psychology or Education, and at some point have my own consulting business. Obtaining a Psy.D. is just too long and expensive at this point. I have another way to obtain counseling licensure by examination which is what I might do. So the doctorate would be to add to my credentials, perhaps publish, etc. I was looking at Kingdom College of Natural Heath in Naturopathic Psychology, which actually looks good. Unaccredited of course. I've seen other posts on here that KCNH is a diploma mill, but it takes 3.5-4 years, so I'm not sure how that is a diploma mill. I just saw the posts on GCAS, which may or may not be a better option. Some of these "affordable" Ph.D.s are $700 a credit hour. At 70-80 credit hours I might as well just go back to my institution which took my last penny. Here is what I have (all accredited): Ed.S. (Education Specialist) in School Psychology (I am a licensed School Psychologist in the U.S.) Master's of Education in Psychology Master's of Adult Education Bachelor of Arts

Great initial post with some info, but you really should fill us in with the info in the addendum and template, like your commitments, study habits, etc. There are so many different options, but without that info, we won't know what to advise you to go for... The one that comes immediately to mind is, Kairos University doctorate. Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Kairos is a possibility, however, when you add up the monthly payments, you are still up over 16k depending on the program. What do you think of Bircham?

No, another degree mill... you're posting all degree mills at this time, you really need to create a list of like your top 10 based on pricing, and other criteria, post it on your reply, and we can look to see if any of them have some type of accreditation that makes them 'legal'.

What do you think of Bircham? I don't have a list of top 10. Any of the traditional programs are 60K and over, even online. In Illinois, only RA/NA with a licensure track (which includes either practicum/internship, or supervised hours) will lead to licensure. I am at 250K in student loans for all those nice degrees I have. My eventual plan is to start a consulting/life coach business from home in holistic psychology. Here is why. I am a school psychologist. I routinely send kids to the psychiatric hospital for evaluation (suicidal/homicidal ideation/transgenderism/depression). They are in there anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. They are sent out "stabilized" and on medication. Medication doesn't work or they won't take it. They see therapists once a week. One month later we are in the same situation. If you do a little reading, psychiatric meds are not that effective. Under my license I can do private practice with children birth to 22 years old (and their parents) who are in a K-12 program. I would like to offer drugless (somatic/overcoming negative or destructive thoughts/art/music/orthomolecular) approaches. Therefore, I would like more education in this area, whether I have to research it myself, or take the classes. Does that help? I guarantee her education is as good or better than the accredited cosmetology schools. She is doing nothing different than the accredited schools. What they are doing is making her spend thousands of dollars on conferences, inspection, consultants, rewriting the syllibi, etc.

Here's a member that followed through with my recommendations, Supermind did the BALS-Psych, (TESU AS Math & Psych Cert was included as it's free on route to the BALS), Walden MS Psych, PSY CHI Society. Supermind is a coach for health/wellness and needed/wanted to have credentials to back that up, he's now looking for Doctoral/PhD studies. I've told him the exact same thing I am telling you... Look for NA/RA or internationally accredited programs as these are recognized, find the ones that match your budget, learning medium, time, etc, Before he started this path, he consulted a professor/PhD in his native India, but ultimately did go with my suggestions instead of that PhD/Professor from India... Institutions start from somewhere, unaccredited ones may be very good at what they teach, etc, but ultimately, there has been no review on their processes/policies, etc. As I used Supermind as an example, he also looked for Masters/PhD, I mentioned to him Walden MS Psych as it's RA instead of any similarly priced NA or state approved/unaccredited program because it's accredited. In the long run, people find out where you've got the degree, don't be that time bomb...

Hello, and thank you for all of your information. What is BALS? I remember when Walden was a no name university that was not respected. Now it's a big deal, so to speak. It seems many of them are developed this way. Capella, Tauro, etc. They are all accredited, however, even these have tuition at $600 and $700 a credit hour. When they are requiring 60-70 credit hours, well.... I just can't afford that. Otherwise it would be so much easier to to a RA program. Loyola offers a doctorate for school psychs with the Ed.S. degree in 3 years with a counseling track or admin track. But, again, the price is just too high. I am tapped out of student loans and had to take private loans my last semester of the Ed.S. I would like the degree to be accredited just in case I might want to teach. I also don't want my colleagues laughing at me, not that I'm thin skinned, but still. I can get tuition reimbursement as well for an accredited degree program, but it is a nominal amount. So, having said that, I read over the old posts on this one; https://knu.edu.eu/. What do you think now, in 2024? If it has merged with KNU and is regarded as same, this would be a God send. Wolff is also a possibility, and Kairos as well. Kairos is going to be a little harder at a payment of $400 or $600 a month. So, I guess I'm asking what you or others think of the legitimacy of the KNOU.
