Intro to Sociology-caution
#1
I took 2 CLEP tests today and did fine- Intro to Sociology and Human Growth and Development. But after reading many posts regarding how "easy" the Intro to Sociology CLEP is, with several people suggesting that InstantCert’s flash cards are all that’s needed to pass the Intro to Sociology CLEP, I have to say that I did NOT find that to be the case today.

The Intro to Sociology CLEP test that I took today was not similar in content to InstantCert’s Sociology flash cards. I would estimate that less than 10% of the content on my test today could be found on the InstantCert website. In fact, more than half of the questions I was asked today were not addressed anywhere on the InstantCert website, and the questions that did relate to what was TOUCHED upon in InstantCert, were much more in-depth in content. The CLEP that I took today was much more comparable to the Peterson’s practice exams. While I will admit that InstantCert’s flash cards were helpful on a handful of questions, they were NOT “key” to passing the CLEP test- not even close. I would suggest supplementing InstantCert with the various study guides that are available, along with a good college textbook. I will, however, say that I found the InstantCert’s Human Growth and Development Flash Cards to be quite helpful with that particular CLEP test; however again, I would not suggest using them exclusively.

Will you share what resources you used with IC? Your scores are excellent, no "ok" Wink

thanks for the tip but you got a 66, it could not have been a total waste.

That was my experience also with the Sociology exam, it was my first one and there weren't too many things on it that resemebled anything I learned on IC and honestly on my exam there weren't too many that resembled Petersons, so I think I had A LOT of educated guesses and managed to pass with a 51!!!!! The official Clep study guide 2009 is on it's way to me in the mail!

Have you looked over any downloadable notes from the members area/comments. User submitted notes have been excellent lately! I read over all of Sparknotes Sociology site and found it really useful.

I passed but with my lowest score to date! I got a better score on Social Sciences and History, and I studied half the time for that one.

I wish I could give you more info, but I took Sociology way back on the 15th of July. That was 4 tests ago, so I can barely remember my name at this point. :ack:

My advice is this: Keep studying and don't put off the test! Don't expect a hi score, but don't be afraid of it either.

I agree...I took the Sociology clep today and found that only 10-15% came from Instantcert. I took the advice from others and only used Instantcert, which was a big mistake. I haven't gotten my score yet because I'm deployed but I hope I passed. I tried to use what I learned from Instantcert the best I could. Make sure you know detailed info about Durkheim, Marx, Weber, and Compte instead of basic info. Be able to apply their theories to different scenarios. Also know the different theories and how they're used in different scenarios.
