I agree it's not Georgia Tech as it's a new program but NYU holds its weight in any business or field. For the price, it's an opportunity for those who always wanted an NYU degree or a very well-known prestigious school on their resume. Sometimes it's the school you go to if it's well known not the ranking. For example, I have a sister and plenty of friends that went to St. Johns University. Their school ranks decent but it's the school's name that lands them big jobs sometimes. St. Johns also has a really good basketball team.

Georgia Tech isn't the only one you should look into, UT-Austin is also $10K, they're very similarly ranked as GT, in fact, this year, they are the same ranking! Over the years, they've been pretty close... neck and neck, I also think it's a great idea to keep your options available, apply to all three or more depending on the costs for application/transcripts you can afford.

I'm guessing that having a big name on your resume isn't always enough - in this instance, with something like NYU, it's mostly who you know. So for an online MS degree, you're not going to have the networking opportunities you'd have on campus.
I'd rather go to a school well-known for the quality of the specific degree than you're looking for over a big name (and in this case, the 2 other schools that have these degrees are cheaper AND have great reputations as well).

I don't think you'd have any harder of a time getting into GT than you would for NYU. And I would certainly give UT Austin a go before NYU. As has been stated, both of these schools are considerably cheaper, without a scholarship, and are higher ranked for the field.

I’d say it’s a matter of personal preference. I really don’t see one having an advantage over the other with 99.9% Of companies. Other than where you’re located geographically. If you’re applying at GM in Atlanta. Georgia tech will probably get the nod over the other two. If you live in the northeast than NYU may be your best bet. In the Southwest it’s probably going to be UT. John Deere in Illinois will probably favor U of I. Any of those schools will get you an interview. After that it’s up to how well you sell yourself during the interview.

In that case, why pay 70% more for NYU?

Why pay more? AND, you have to think about the hiring manager. A hiring manager MAY know about schools, and may not. If they do, they will favor the others over NYU. They are known for their IT/CS programs. If the hiring manager WENT to NYU, they may favor NYU (and then again, they may not since NYU is not know for their IT/CS programs). So your chances are much lower with NYU in almost all scenarios.

Like I said personal preference. Some people like Ranger boats.
Will it catch more fish than a Nitro ? No. Will It cost more ? Yes.
Why would someone pick any program over Georgia tech if price and rank were the only factor ?
