Help finishing up at TESU. Please.

You're so close to getting to 16 credits!  You can take a cheapo 1, 2, or 3 credit course (PLA 100 & PLA 200) to have 16 residency credits at TESU to finish your degree.  But that begs the question, how are you going to get the 15 credits?  The cheapest might be 5 easy lower level TECEPS she hasn't taken before, for $750.  The 15 RA credits are all free electives, meaning, it can be anything!

At this point it is finding the quickest way to complete the requirements. Her capstone finishes September 27th, she leaves for Africa on October 3rd and will be gone for over a year. She thought everything was set for graduation she checked three times with counselors.

I see, well, she can do this, 5 TECEPS in 5 weeks (make it 6-7 just to give herself some buffer time).  As I mentioned before, since she's done TECEPS, she would be familiar with the process.  Just take 5 of the easiest exams that won't duplicate her current courses for credit.  You can email academic advising to see if these all work and pre-approve them.  Link: https://www2.tesu.edu/listalltecep.php

My suggestions are as follows:  She can decide on any, but these are my recommendations
1) Since she's taken SOS-110, take Learning in the Digital Age (DGL-101-TE), it shouldn't duplicate credit, but should contain duplicate/overlapping information
2) She's taken Technical Writing, take the Technical Communication (ENG-202-TE), ladder her skills and maybe even build on what was learnt before
3) She has intermediate & college algebra, take Applied Liberal Arts Math (MAT-105-TE), the material should be similar in nature, it could be a great review as well
4) She has several Biology courses including Nutrition, but no Biology 101, take the Intro to Biology (BIO-101-TE), again, for review and for the credit
5) She has taken an Environmental Science course, the closest to this would be Intro to Meteorology (EAS-131-TE), this should be a review as well, she can build/recall the information and prepare for this exam

Since she's taken an environmental course do you think the environmental ethics tecep would be better instead of the meteorology one? I took it after doing an environmental and an ethics course and there's alot of overlap.

The majority of my choices are 100 level vs 200 level, I would recommend that as an option too, the main difference is, I would look at the content of both exams and see which one seems better or easier for the student. It doesn't even have to be these 5 courses, look at the entire list they have and see which one may be of interest, sometimes taking a course that's more interesting is easier... you have so many to choose from.

First, I'm not seeing where the person got 15cr from TESU? It looks to me like they have 3cr from the cornerstone, and then 6cr from 2 TECEP's (they have CR instead of a grade). If that's the case, they count as RA, but not towards residency, so you'll have to pay the residency waiver.

Another caveat - I'm wondering if they will move you into the 2021 catalog, which has some different requirements? And if so, if the courses she brought in will be re-evaluated and be knocked down to LL? Because those courses may be LL at this point.

I'm going to guess she should re-enroll, register for the capstone, and see if the eval is still the same. My guess is...it's a tossup.

not sure if that's about what I was sharing when I said "at" TESU.  But I was talking about total RA credit (toward the 30 needed) and not talking waiver (16 credit from courses at tesu for non military students).

if it was about bjcheung's suggestion about residency waiver being quick and easy to meet....

I agree with that I think bjcheung counted the TECEPs by mistake. and wondered what I was not seeing.

I do see these courses count toward residency or will when they are completed.
*sos 110 (well, yes of course it does)

*planned course bus comm COM 202

*Capstone (of course it will and she is registered for the July term????? no?

so that's 9 "from tesu" (that are not teceps).  which could mean 7 more credits from courses to avoid waiver?
I'm not going to add up cost differences. leaving that to experts.

I have heard that UExcel's are easier to pass - and now many can be taken from home.

I agree with BJ that Applied Liberal Arts Math is an easy one if you've taken Int. and College Algebra.

She could also retake College Algebra as a TECEP, they'll just replace the course she already has. Same with Computers, US History I or II, Sociology, Nutrition, etc. Anything that will repeat/replace a course she's already taken is a good option.

But again, you may want to use UExcel's instead. More expensive, but more general (like CLEP and DSST's) and easier to pass than TECEP's which are supposedly VERY textbook specific.

To Kab, who posted below me, but I can't respond because I've done too many posts today: I did not say UExcel's were EASY to pass, I said in general they are EASIER than TECEP's because they are general rather than textbook-specific.

Some of them apparently are. Some of them are not. Similar to TECEPs.

Actually, UEXCELS are pretty good as they are graded. If your daughter is looking at getting graded credits just by the exams and she's a very good test taker, UEXCELS are a good choice. Otherwise, you may want to decide on taking courses or e-packs, you need to make sure to either make the 16 residency credits or pay the residency waiver fee.
