TESU Capstone Registration
#21
(03-07-2019, 04:56 PM)AMRH94 Wrote: How much are people paying for the Capstone? I was told by TESU that it is $1497 normally and $1425 with the Study.com discount.

I seem to recall people recently paying only $1125. Was there a 2019 price hike?

You can see the current Study.com discounts on TESU's site here.

With the Study.com discount, instead of paying $499 per credit, you pay $366 per credit. Each capstone is a 3-credit course which normally runs $1,497, but comes down to $1,098 with the Study.com discount. The cornerstone is also a 3-credit course now and will come in at the same $1,098 cost.

In addition to the per-credit tuition discount, the residency waiver fee is reduced from $2,500 to $2,200 with the Study.com discount.

I'm not sure where those $1,425 or $1,125 numbers are coming from. I assume this came from Advising, which isn't really the best source of information; they tend to guess a lot rather than actually look up the proper answers.

Although it is not the capstone that I registered for, I can confirm that Study.com still brings the tuition to $366 per credit, as I just registered for 9 credits for a total of $3294 within the last five minutes.

Hmm, 2019 is a funky year for TESU - that's one thing for sure, especially for their tuition pricing and changes to the cornerstone...
If you are on the 2018-2019 catalog year at TESU and have applied to them before Jan 1 2019, you should be good as the link provided above hasn't been updated.
The link that they did update is the cost & tuition page located here: https://www.tesu.edu/studycom/costs-tuition
So, if you are on the 2019a (applied after Jan 1, 2019) then the tuition pricing would be $375/credit.

My academic evaluation was finally completed last friday (after a week of daily phone calls and emails) and it looked like I'd have the green light to register for the March Capstone. That is, until today when I received the email below:

"Permission to register for BUS-421, Business Administration Capstone, will not be granted at this time. Students must have 100 credits or more applied to his/her degree program and all of the requirements in the following areas satisfied: English Composition I & II, the Core and Area of Study."

Is this new? I feel like every time I speak with someone at TESU I received different and conflicting answers. The only requirements that I'm seeing on the TESU website that must be met prior to enrolling the in Capstone is 100 credits and a GPA of 2.0.

Am I missing something?

So-- we are into March. Did you manage to get in?? I had to fight for it.

Wow, I had no idea that they snuck in a pricing change after the new year! They usually don't adjust pricing until the official catalog change/articulation agreement renewal in July, though it looks like this change only affects the Study.com discount since the regular tuition doesn't appear to have changed. At least they didn't raise the residency waiver fee too.

Either way, the new $1125 price is still better than the $1497 price without Study.com affiliation.

I am still waiting to hear from them. I find this system quite strange. They have officially registered me for the April Capstone, but yet to send me an invoice for it. $ 1497 is too steep a hike! Is that what I need to pay? I enrolled in 2018 December. So, will I still be charged $ 1098?

Pricing changes are usually universal and not tied to a catalog, but then again they usually don't kick in until the new catalog drops in July, so anything is possible. My assumption is that the new pricing is the pricing for all SDC affiliates, regardless of their catalog.

Study.com (corporate choice) discount tuition pricing appears to be $375 per credit now, so you should pay $1,125 for a 3-credit course using the SDC discount, not $1,497 full tuition price. It's only $27 more, which isn't too bad, but still a bit odd to see that they changed it without notice and outside of the normal cycle.

$ 1125 is not bad, although like you say, currently enrolled students should be informed of such changes over email. That would make it easier for everyone.

When does one pay the residency waiver fee? After clearing the Capstone? Also, does anyone know if it can be cleared in installments? For example, if I cleared like $ 733 each month as I am taking the Capstone, then it will all be done by the time my capstone is finished.

I believe TESU expects you pay your residency waiver fee at or around the same time that you apply for graduation. I found this odd since they don't actually remind you of this when you submit the graduation application, nor do they provide a means for a student to pay the residency waiver directly. You either have to call the bursar's office to pay it over the phone or submit a ticket to the bursar's office to request a code to pay it online.

Technically, as long as the fee is paid before your degree audit takes place that is good enough. However, if you wait until after the audit happens and they flag you for failing to meet residency requirements, you could be automatically bumped to the next graduation date before you have the chance to fix it. Degree audits begin around 3 weeks after the application cutoff date and are completed in applicant order.

In my case, I submitted my graduation application on 12/25 (cutoff was Jan 1st), paid my residency waiver on 1/15 and received confirmation of the completion of my degree audit on 2/6.

As for paying it in installments, I don't know if they have an installment plan but FYI making online (credit card) payments has a fee. So unless there is some way for you to send in a check or something you'll end up paying an extra fee each time you submit a payment, which will add up after a while. Personally, my recommendation is to just start putting aside money into a savings account each pay period so by the time you're ready to graduate you'll have it all together, and maybe a tiny bit of interest as well. That also has the benefit that if you change your mind and delay your graduation date, or an emergency comes up, that you won't already be out a huge chunk of money.
