TECEP Cost - Holy smokes!
#1
Wow, it's going to cost $267 for my TECEP exam. I'm guessing they are adding an enrollment fee on top of that, but can't find where that is documented. Either way, I don't remember them costing this much.

Is this right?

Let me guess, you signed up for the February term? They added a $150 late fee to the regular price of $117. If you don't want to pay that, you'll have to wait and register for March term.

Ugh, yeah I had not considered that. That is good to know though. That seems super steep for a late fee.

Thanks for the info!

When my daughter signed up for Comp 2 the CS was on top of the late fee and encouraged her to push out the course unless she really needed it in that month. My daughter is thankfully a huge fan of saving some money and gladly pushed it out - I am sure I would have called in asking for a correction anyway Wink

Considering that the normal cost to take an online course with them is $1500, a 10% late fee charge is not bad (not great either).  But when you add that same fee to a $117 exam, it becomes a 125% late fee, which is ridiculous.

I still can't figure out why they run their TECEP program as they do, having to register during a term as if it were a class.  It's dumb.

I agree, dumb and confusing. I registered for one and then had to do all this research to find out what dates I can take it. It's so different from all our other online testing options.

It counts as an enrolled class for financial aid and tax purposes even though you can't use financial aid to pay for them.

I appreciate it because it allows me to keep my student loans deferred lol. I signed up for 3 TECEPS in the fall and was considered more than half-time, which automatically deferred my payments. Also, if you are taking regular online course, taking a TECEP or two can help you maintain full time status.

I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask why this fee is so high for tests. As someone that works in IT, I would be willing to guess that they did not make an exception for this type of registration.(i.e., data-related) Not that it is a conscious decision on the school's part. And also, if they have people willing to pay it for TECEP registration, why fix it, right?

I'll let you all know what I find out.

Well, I didn't get the response I was hoping for. But it did turn out o.k. I emailed them and explained that it seemed high to tack on a late fee for more than the test itself. They were willing to waive the fee, but didn't address the problem with it being this high. So I got lucky, but I'm hoping they take a closer look at this late fee policy. It really defeats the purpose of being able to take this test "anytime", if they are going to penalize based on sign up dates. IMHO.

I registered late for TECEPs 3 times and didn't pay a late fee. I think their people don't tack it on usually?
