TESU English BA - Can I get most of my credits from Shmoop and Study.com?

How do you get free CLEPs? I went to the Modern States site, but the FAQ says that CLEPs will cost money.

You can get vouchers to take them for free: https://modernstates.org/freshman-year-free/

Man you weren't kidding. I didn't have any trouble with Drugs in Lit but Intro to Poetry is awful. I'm doing worse on the retests somehow too

Well, hopefully you find others similar to Drugs in Lit then. I did not try Poetry yet. Good luck if you're continuing with Poetry! Let us know your thoughts on all the Lit courses Smile

Ha, thanks! I was sitting on a 69 after finishing the final, which I didn't think was a big deal, easy fix. Until I started retaking the unit tests. I've done worse on two out of five of them, I got the exact same score on one of them, did one of them well enough the first time, and I'm left with one more I can retake (not counting the final) after lowering my grade down to a 66... It's been a disheartening experience, aha

Oh, too bad you can't keep the higher score. I don't have as much Shmoop experience, but now I see what you mean. I've had that happen because on the retake, you may change some of the correct answers Sad

I'm also working on a BA in English degree plan. Since so many reviews are so negative about Shmoop, do any other alternative sources exist for affordable upper-level credit? I looked at Study.com, Straighterline, Dakar, etc., but only can find Shmoop. If it is so poorly designed, I don't want to bother using Shmoop.

Not much.

Coopersmith has a 4 cr course for $60/cr. Medieval Hispano-Jewish Poetry (LIT-401).

Most of us will be taking a UL course for Non-Western Lit, such as Chinese Poetry at BYU. So we would only need 3 of the UL Shmoop courses if we take Coopersmith's.

Speaking of, do you happen to know how the Chinese Poetry course works? Like is there a proctored online exam?

Your options are to take at least 3 UL Shmoop courses, or to pay upwards of $500 per course to find other options.
