TESU English BA - Can I get most of my credits from Shmoop and Study.com?

I only know what their site says:

Quote:Method: Most exams are available in an online or paper-based format and must be taken in a proctored setting.

Proctor: Students must take their exams with a proctor certified at the level of their course or above. All exams for university courses must be proctored by a testing center. Proctors and testing centers must be certified by BYU Independent Study before exams are requested.

BYU Independent Study provides a list of individuals and organizations who have elected to proctor BYU Independent Study exams and have been certified by our office. BYU Independent Study does not guarantee the availability of certified proctors. Students are encouraged to contact proctors prior to requesting exams to verify availability, fees, and other policies required by the proctor.

In addition to the midterm and final exam, there are: "12 sets of practice homework exercises (may be resubmitted once with no fee), 13 lesson quizzes (comprehensive, open book, timed; lowest score is dropped);16 reports or reflection papers".

Ah, right on.
If anyone else is curious, they have a search function for testing centers nearest to whatever zip code you put in:

Shmoop's Bible as Literature is really easy, if that helps you guys. Shakespeare in Context wasn't bad either.

Since so many reviews are so negative about Shmoop, do any other alternative sources exist for affordable upper-level credit? I looked at Study.com, Straighterline, Dakar, etc., but only can find Shmoop. If it is so poorly designed, I don't want to bother using Shmoop.

I'm pursuing a BA in English and doing all my UL courses on Shmoop and I've gotta say, I don't think it's as bad as all that.  Some of the links are dead in a few of the courses, and the readings can be time consuming, but if you pay attention, take notes, and prep well enough it's all pretty easy.  The unit tests and the finals all use a lot of the same questions from the quizzes, and I've found them all to be fairly easy to deal with.

Good luck!

Does Coopersmith's Medieval Hispano-Jewish Poetry (LIT-401) count as Non western? I'm guessing not since you all talk of using BYU, but it sounds non western to me. Just curious??

Spain is generally considered Western culture and Judaism certainly is as well.

I have heard more than one person say that Medieval Hispano-Jewish poetry counts as Non-Western. I have no experience with it myself

Have we seen anyone actually come back with that transcription here?

A lot of courses which "should" count don't Sad

I believe I asked if it could count as Non-Western and was told no. However I may be mis-remembering that. Someone else should ask!

I don't believe I've ever seen a post about it counting. If so, a lot of us would have been taking it already, because that's cheap! I did a bunch of searching on the forum a couple times when planning my degree.

I don't believe it should count. Neither Spain nor Judaism are traditionally considered "non-western."
