Study.com zip zip thread

Ok

So, graduation audit request gets sent in. Ask advising to help me with a problem, they respond I am two credits short. (Prior to this semester, when I was planning it out, I asked they remove all planning credits so I could see what I needed. They left one in).

I need two gen ed elective credits.

Flying back to DegreeForum, which always has the answers, I see study.com's Communications 120 as a lower-pain faster class. It also has the benefit of qualifying me as an affiliate, getting me potentially discounted fees.

I dig through the subforum, and there are no stickies anymore talking about study.com (guess the upgrade ate them), tried some searches to no avail.

I'm building this as a potential sticky for others, but I intend to still dig for the answers before I commit.

This is my plan for low-cost / no-cost credit that parlays into discounted fees at Thomas Edison State University.

1. Pause Capstone (a feat in and of itself, but I digress).
2. EDIT: YOU MUST ENTER STUDY.COM VIA THE LINK AT THE TESU LINK Using the code at https://www.tesu.edu/studycom/index.cfm  (TESU4061) start a 30 day free trial, registering at study.com
3. Register for Comm 120 (I already checked to ensure TESU transferred it in (as of today, continued confirmation it goes in as "as COM-290 Presentational Speaking and can complete the section" AND it slotted into the hole I had - important (already had that issue once before.))

Unsure at this point. Tentatively:

4t. Somehow, tell TESU I am a study.com member and change me to 'affiiate' status.
5t. Get Admissions to slot this course on my academic evaluation so the graduation audit committee doesn't bounce me (shows in-progress / completable by deadline).
5t. Do course. Rapidly.
6t. Do proctored final.
7t. Use the link at https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/b90253...bd813935c1

to request a *direct* issuance of the transcript from study.com to TESU.

-then-

at. somehow get TESU to hurry the accepting and loading of transcript process
bt. shut off study.com account, hopefully paying nothing (if I pay, honestly, not a dealbreaker, just trying to make a positive here).
ct. get all of this accomplished by the deadline for March graduation (I keep forgetting. 28 December or 1 January??)
dt. pay reduced residency waiver.

What am I missing? @Dfrecore or @JSD?

So, I need to sign up for the college accelerator version, right?

I thought I read here that you can't take final tests with the free trial. (I'm also not sure if you can get the affiliate membership with the free trial .)

Also, I highly recommend Communications 120 over History of Vietnam war. Both courses are short, but comms requires less memorization, and the information presented is kinda common sense. Now, because it is an NCCRS course, it will take two weeks to have TESU evaluate the credits (but it's free).

I was also told here that you can apply for graduation without having all your courses filled as long as you complete them shortly afterwards.

High_Order1, I am a very frugal person, I think you're going a bit far with the 5 days free trial of paying nothing.
Secondly, you are also making this a bit hard for yourself if you pause the Capstone (I highly doubt you need to).

This is the order I recommend, as you will need to have a paying Study.com membership for everything to work.
I have also entered into this post three links of what may help you further. Please see below for details.

1) Continue with the Capstone, don't stop going forward, apply for graduation last week of Dec, before January 1.
2) If you have the extra time to do the Study.com course or two, purchase the College Accelerator for two exams
Going for a cheaper option and then changing to College Accelerator just adds time to everything, do it right the first time.

3) Finish your Study.com courses and the Capstone by the end of the term (or End of January - whichever is latest)
4) Make sure your courses are sent to ACE/NCCRS and then transfers to TESU promptly by emailing them when you order the transcripts - shoot for the first week of February.

Last minute graduation: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/showthr...?tid=28045
Squeezing in for March: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/showthr...?tid=27836

I hope this helps your decision and also points you to the right path. Go all out these final few months!
Do not hesitate or pause, keep the momentum going... you rock, you can do it! Good luck my friend.

You have plenty of time to do the course. Yes get it slotted in as planned before you apply for graduation, but you can do that with a quick email. Yes become a study.com member and get affiliate status before applying for graduation so you can pay the cheaper tuition waiver.

For March graduation you will have until mid February to get the last course in. Also, once you're in the graduation pipeline new transcripts are automatically expedited. No problem.

Stay in your capstone course! Those study.com courses are not hard. I took, if I remember correctly, 9 of them over 12 weeks and honestly could have done more but I was on the scholarship and limited to the two a month. I eventually gave in and set up another account to take 5 in one month at the end just to finish up. Most of the courses I spent less than a week on and a few I did over a weekend. Don't stress about that too much. You do need to be in the College Accelerator program to take exams and get credit so go ahead and sign up.

To get the study.com affiliate discount send an email to TESU and they will put it on your account. It also gives you a discount on the capstone class and they don't require you show proof of completion before you start the capstone. I sent my transcripts in after the capstone started so they went off the email and verified it after the fact.

For some reason, I had it in my head that I had to have all transcripts in by end of December to clear the academic audit.

Here; this is an excerpt from the email I got from Jennifer Stark, Director of Academic Records:

Quote:The next deadline to apply for Graduation is January 1, 2018 and the degrees will be conferred in March 2018. All TESU course work must be complete by February 1, 2018 and all transfer credit must be postmarked by January 1, 2018.

That's why I was concerned about the timeline. (Shakes head) There's just so much to absorb, and it's been hard for me to keep everything straight.

Far as capstone, I just meant I'd stop work on it in order to get those last credits in. And I did.

Last night, I asked advising if it would slot in.
Today, I received an email  saying it did, so I started around the same time I started this thread. Unwilling to wait on responses, I went to study.com via TESU (useless), set up an account, took the course (27 quizzes) with a 100 average (three retakes), went through the pipeline to take the proctored final (pain in my tookoos), took the 70 question final, (said it scored me 63 out of 70 = 90% right??), then I filled out that form to get a transcript sent (unlikely).

I have learned:
  • You cannot, as the esteemed Joe said, take a proctored final for college credit while in any "free" or "trial" periods. But, it apparently takes discount codes.
  • You literally need to write down (or photograph) your exam code, and if you are using a fill-it-in system, write your Study.com password down too. (Especially if you use something isolated to keep RPNow out of your business.) (Sigh). Once you're in their software, you're in.
  • It asked me to leave it alone for 15 minutes after I took the exam, ostensibly to 'upload' my test results. While it continued to record my desktop AND mike AND camera. (shrugs)
That's all I have for right now. Thanks for the responses...

You can't take an exam under the free trial, but I think you could complete all the quizzes for 1-2 courses.

I'm already in Capstone. Think they'd go retroactive on the cost? Bursar@ or Registrar@? I can't find a membership number to forward to TESU.

Great question on the retroactive - my wife would say that there is no way and you'll have to pay but I am always a fan of asking and selling why one should. This has been incredibly successful in my life and think if you can knock out the Study.com course (plenty of time but knock this out asap - must pay membership to receive credit) you should have a fighting chance. If TESU says no, run it up the chain of command until that ask you to stop emailing/calling because prior to that, you are one person away from a Yes.

Already done and in the books, my friend!

Thanks for the encouragement, but... I feel a little conflicted about it. Can't hurt to ask, though
