Review on study.com Personal Finance
#21
Mamasaphire Wrote:The proctor service is provided by study.com, you take it in your own home with a laptop camera. All the info is provided on the website.

You download software and if you don't have a movable camera like me you have to rotate your computer all over the room, its annoying but they accept it. Good thing about these exams is you can take them the minute your ready. No scheduling or anything like that.

So, if you are on the scholarship, definitely don't look at other courses before you complete Personal Finance. They sent me this email. After I saw the email, I quickly finished all the quizzes and took the exam. I would normally do more prep, but I didn't want to risk getting kicked off. Fortunately I passed.

"I've noticed you've been viewing some lessons outside of Finance 102. As you know, the intention of your scholarship is to help you become a financially resourceful person through successful completion of our Personal Finance course. While you are welcome to use Study.com at your own discretion once you have passed the Finance 102 final exam, I'd like to ask you to focus on Personal Finance for now. Unfortunately, if you do not get back on track within a week, we will have to rescind your access to Study.com.
You are welcome to adjust your Study Trainer schedule to finish the course early if you'd like. And, as always, do not hesitate to reach out to us if you'd like any assistance in staying on track with the Personal Finance course."

I wonder why it's so important that people take this particular course. I assume there's son specific reason. Interesting.

It's not an out-of-the blue rule, they already spelled out that rule in the acceptance/instructions email, in the membership details, and on the scholarship application:

Quote:While your membership will grant you access to all of the content on Study.com, we ask that you only explore content from the Personal Finance course until you pass the final exam. After you pass the exam, you will be able to explore everything the site has to offer until your account expires.

Please note that prematurely interacting with content outside of Finance 102, or failure to meet the checkpoints listed above, could result in the cancellation of your Study.com membership.

When I got accepted, they had some milestones. Like they want you to be done with the first chapter in the first week and they want you to use the study trainer. So set that up and did the first chapter very quickly. But, prior to getting the scholarship, I had an active account. I was about 40% done with a chapter in Advanced Tech. Writing. So I was planning to finish that up and then move to finish Personal Finance. (I actually didn't realize how easy Personal Finance would be.) I just kind of thought finishing the chapter you were on would be acceptable. It's all good, Personal Finance is very easy and was doable within a day.

OaklakeNC, will you have an Area of Focus that Excelsior puts on their transcript for you in a BSLA?

Oh man, I don't even know. I'm so confused with all with that. I'm *attempting* the Professional Writing concentration. That is plan A. If that doesn't work, I could do a focus in History easily. That would be my plan B. I have some questions about the writing concentration I'm waiting to hear back on. I need only upper level credits from here on out- unless I need to pick up something for the writing concentration. And I will only do that if it is a few courses. Otherwise I'll go with plan B. It kind of depends on what they count the Shmoop Literature courses as.

This scholarship, is it still active? I am unable to open the hyperlink. Maybe it's because I am using a government computer. My phone's battery is empty and I left my charger. Maybe someone can give me a quick reply. Interested to utilize this scholarship. Thanks!
