From what I understand, only COSC accepts this course. I'm not sure about Excelsior but I know that TESU does not accept it. I did the course to get my feet wet with Algebra after 12 years off and unfortunately I can't use the course.

I see that alek's beginner algebra is ace approved. Does tesu accept this course, and would it duplicate any credits I have already earned?

Although a little more expensive, you can use TESU's MAT-105 Liberal Arts Math TECEP for additional general ed credit. It is in line with beginning algebra and complements the general math CLEP exam.

BTW, I can confirm TESU does accept Saylor Business Statistics, it transfers in as OPM-351. It's cheap UL credit and for your plan could be used to fill a business elective slot.

Are Aleks courses no longer going to be approved for Ace Credit? I noticed the course date is 11/30/2016 now in Ace for a few of their courses I checked. I reached out to ALEKS and their response was "That looks like an internal ACE Credit interface. While I can promise you that our Independent Use Course Products will remain active beyond that date, I cannot promise you what it means on ACE's end. It is possible they will not accept that course following that date, but I cannot be certain. It may just be an arbitrary date selected back in 2013 that has not yet been updated on their end.

I would recommend reaching out to ACE for more information."

I don't want to sign up and not finish a course by that date and not receive credit for this. Recently this happened with my NFA Hydraulic Calculations for Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Plan Review (Q0137) course. They said they'd reach out to Ace to see if they can get an extension for credit.

ALEKS needs to request a re-approval from ACE. ACE isn't going to automatically extend that date. It doesn't sound like the particular person you're talking to understands the process, but I imagine someone at ACE does and is working on it. But no one can guarantee weather or not it will be approved for renewal.

I wouldn't worry about not finishing them in time. I started Intermediate Algebra on 9/22 and Finished Pre-Calc on 9/30. They do not take long if your willing to put the work in and def use a internet calculator for help like mathway.com. I would use my approach or a variation of it. I took the initial assessment and saw how I did. I was usually pretty close to 70%. Then I did a few units and added them to my pie. Then requested a forced assessment. I then took my time, made sure to have the right answers before entering them. I finished all the courses within about a day. The exception was College Algebra (I got a little impatient with that one). You have plenty of time to finish before the end of it but you might see ACE re-approve the courses but then again you don't want to miss out if they don't.

Most ACE-recommended courses are on a 3-yr cycle at this point - they go through the process, get approved, and it's for 3 years. Before the 3 years is up, they start another round.

The average ALEKS employee will not understand this, since they aren't involved in the process, and probably have no clue what ACE even is. So no use asking some random employee at ALEKS.

I personally am going to start and try to finish my Stats course before 11/30, just in case. But they've been ACE-recommended for a long time (since 1999), so I would assume that they're going to try to get approved again. That being said, there are no guarantess...

Penn Foster regularly cycles their courses in and out of ACE-recommendation. So if you have something there that you want to take that is set to expire, I would definitely recommend that you take it before then.

Thanks for that information, I will take a few vacation days and try to cram it in. I did get a reply from NFA regarding the other part of my post which prompted my concern about taking a course and not finishing before the expiration date in ACE.
I was surprised that it was an error that Q-137 was supposed to have expired in 2013, the Ace Database reflects this now instead of 9/30/2016 (I have a screen shot for proof)

Here's a copy of their reply

Unfortunately, this course was reviewed by ACE in 2013, and the credit recommendation was removed. It should have actually expired in 2013 instead of 2016. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Any updates on this? I'm thinking I have to go ahead and get a subscription to aleks now. I just now realized that the bsba from tesu requires like 4 math classes between the "mathematics" and "quantitative literacy" sections. Dangett.

Just sign up and get them done you have plenty of time before they "expire". They will probably be reviewed again but November 30th from now is plenty of time. It took me 3days for each and that wasn't just doing them from start to finish as quick as I could. I think I spent a total of 20hours in the ALEKS program total for 3 classes. (I didn't need stats). It's by far worth the 20$ to get those credits. So I would just sign up and start today. You can prob finish Int Algebra in a day.

My math skills are pathetic....so I will be cramming. Might even take a couple of vacation days to work them.

Makes me reconsider COSC over TESU because of only 3 math credits needed at COSC.
