Help in Finding an Advanced Accounting online class
#1
Does anyone know where I can take a self paced Advanced Accounting class at a decent price? LSU's Advanced Accounting course has been on hold for a while and they don't know when it will be available again. I need the class from a regionally accredited institution. I'm trying to get into a good AACSB Master's program in accounting and I would prefer to take an actual accelerated class from a regionally accredited institution. I'd rather not take Straighterline or Penn Foster classes. I've tested out of a few General Business classes but not Accounting classes. All my other Accounting classes have been earned from LSU. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I read your first post, it seems you're about done with your BSBA Accounting, is that right?
When you finish at TESU, you are going to be treated like any other college grad from a RA school.
I don't think they will look down on you, your chances are going to be equally good.

From looking at the wikia webpage for Accounting Post July 1, 2015 your best options are CSU.
Sanantone's BSBA in Accounting post-July 1, 2015 - Degree Forum Wiki - Wikia

TESU is regionally accredited and I think they're applying for other program specific accreditation as well.
I might have mixed it up with another school, but if memory serves me well, I think it was them going for it.
The reason is because their Engineering/technology, Nursing and other programs are accredited as well.

Hope this helps, check with your advisor from TESU for recommendations on completing the degree and your personal requirements.

The reason why LSU is so popular for accounting courses is because they offer a full range of courses that are self-paced and cheap, not because of the school's name.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other schools that offer advanced accounting courses by distance that are both self-paced and as cheap as LSU. I know that UC Berkeley Extension, UMass Lowell and Empire State College all offer semester-based courses that are in the ~$1100 range, which by most standards isn't that bad, but they're certainly not cheap.

The only other one I know of is CSU-Global - they have an Advanced Accounting exam. I have heard that they have coursework online to prepare you for the exam, not sure if that's enough of a "course" for you to go through. But you could always purchase the textbook for the LSU course, read it on your own, and then take the CSU-G exam to prove to yourself that you know the material.

Back in 2008, I took Advanced Accounting with Eastern Oregon University- I don't remember what the tuition was. Also look at the University of Northern Alabama.

Thank you bjcheung77. I need 6 more classes. The two Advanced Accounting classes and the others I'm hoping to test out of. I looked at CSU's classes, but I saw in a different post that they might not be accepted at TESU because they don't qualify for CSU's own degree program. I don't want to take any chances with the Accounting classes. I guess I'm just going to have to take them from TESU even though they're more expensive than other options.

Thank you Yanji. That is a little expensive, but it is comparable to what it would cost to take those classes at TESU. I might just have to bite the bullet.

Hey Yanji, I see that you completed your MBA in Finance and Accounting. Has that been helpful in your career after you got the MBA? I was thinking of getting an MBA in Finance and Accounting also after the Master's in Accounting. I know Regis University offers it. How was the program at Indiana University? How long did it take to complete?

Wow, that Eastern Oregon University cost ($210/credit) is awesome. I'm going to check into it. Thank you so much for the suggestion. By the way, how did you find the class? Do you know if the class can be completed at your own pace?

The previous posting was about residency, not that the course wouldn't be accepted. TESU will accept the courses since they're from an RA college, but it's always good to ask for pre-approval (in writing) before taking anything you're not 100% sure of.
