Credit-by-Exam from CSU Global!!!!!
#21
Do you think these would work for CPA requirements for a state that allows exam credit?
I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.

The question is are you going to live in that State for the rest of your days? Will the CPA board accept CLEP or CBE as qualification for you to sit the CPA exam. This sort of thing may change in the future but my CPA plans are based on butt in the seat accounting credits. You could always pay to take the classes again after your degree is conferred along with the 30 post grad credits required in my State to begin taking the test. It's a bit risky in my opinion. Meanwhile I have a checkbook that needs balancing then reconciled Smile

What about reciprocity? How does that generally work with accountancy boards?

I know W. Virginia and Maryland both except credit by exam for courses as long as they are on the transcript of an accredited school. You would need to check with your State's board for confirmation.

Reciprocity is different for each state.

You can check out each States requirements before you apply to take the CBE so you have a good idea, it doesn't mean that they won't change them in the future and you'd have to actually take a class. Considering the difficulty of the CPA exam sitting a few classes might be good for review. A recent conversation with an employer of an accounting student who just got her CPA on her 10th attempt resulted in a $4000 on the spot raise. The tests costs about $3000 and there is a limit to how many times you can take it in a year.

I am now enrolled as a non-degree seeking student. I applied under NDS- Competency-Based Exam. If you call them up or send a message through the website to an enrollment advisor and wait after expressing interest, you might get an email with a code to waive the application fee. I was sent two codes over a two or three week period. I used one to waive the application fee, but it's only $25. You don't need to send any transcripts. An enrollment advisor will call you up and ask you which exam you're planning to take. After that, they will send you an email with your CSU Global email address and link to their portal. I'm still waiting to be assigned an academic advisor. It was confirmed that you can only earn up to 15 undergraduate credits or 12 graduate credits as an NDS student. After that, you need to either become a fully admitted student or apply as a "lifelong learner." I have yet to find out what the lifelong learner program is.

That looks really promising. Have you had a chance to check out the study material recommendations on their exams yet?

I'm going to be signed up for Information Systems Analysis and Design, but won't have access to the study area until February. They don't have their exam descriptions and recommended textbooks openly available. I just sent an email asking for several exam descriptions so that TESC can pre-approve them.

I'd be interested to see what type of material they offer and any other guidance you can provide on this.
