Question about College Composition Clep
#1
I am currently studying for the college composition CLEP (the one with essays) and had a question about citing. For the second essay you must cite one of the sources given. However, are you supposed to cite the sources in-text and at the bottom of your essay (in a list of references), or either one of those?

Thank you so much!

I haven't taken the CLEP, but typically citations are cited in-text and then referenced in the list of references at the end. It wouldn't hurt to review either MLA or APA before taking the exam.

The sources are given to you - you need only cite them in-text. IIRC, you are required to cite both sources in any way of your choosing. I did APA style for one, just quoted the other (using the name of the source). But then again, I haven't gotten my grade yet so we'll see if my understanding was correct...

I wrote it and passed a couple of months ago. I cited in text. It was pretty straightforward, I think it ended up being just last name and year. No tricky sources, very basic.

Yup, just cite in the body of the essay, no reference list needed at the end.

I am updating this thread because I have two more questions:

1. How accurate would you say is the practice test in the official CLEP study guide?

2. For the citation essay part, are you able to view the sources while writing or do you just get to view and read them then click to another window to write the essay?

You can view them while writing.
