UPDATE: Okay, so I just got home from taking the final exam for the cost accounting class and I thought I'd get my thoughts down before I forget anything. Most of the experience was similar to the final exam for my Intermediate Accounting II class. You are given 1 hour and the test is open book and open notes. For this exam, however, the instructions stated that you could use a computer to access the study guide as long as your proctor verified your computer and such. I didn't know that was an option so I didn't use it, but I don't know if it's really necessary. Also, the instructions said to use a blue or black pen except on math exams. I wasn't sure if this qualified as a math exam so I went ahead and used the pen.
As far as the exam itself, it wasn't too bad. There were several questions requiring you to work out the problems and then there were quite a few questions where you had to write a 2-4 sentence response. They don't seem to give you enough paper for your answers so I ended up flipping the paper over and writing on the back. (hopefully, that's not against the rules! <gulp>) Anyway, the hardest part with this exam is the time limit. It's really not enough time to look up the answers, even though it is open book so it's important that you understand the material.
Some topics I would recommend that you know are journal entries, T-accounts, process costing, price and quantity variances, overtime, activity-based costing, and overhead application.

UPDATE #2: Got my grade back for my Cost Accounting Final Exam. . . . . . . . . . . .90!!!!! So that makes my final overall grade for the class a 94!!!

I just submitted my final project for this class so I'm pretty much done with the class. Just waiting on the final grades to post. Anyway, I thought I'd write down my thoughts for anyone looking to take this in the future.
BUS 495 - Strategic Business Management
Final Grade - TBD
>> Obviously, as far as signing up and the time requirements, this class is the same as all the other PF courses. This class took me about a month, but I did take a few days off over the holidays.
>> The textbook is once again included in the price. Don't be alarmed at the size of the textbook however. A good portion of it is case studies and you will only use about 5-6 of those.
>> The instructor for this course was Donna Evans. I really liked her. She is definitely prepared for the webinars and tries to engage the students. Hopefully, she will be a quick grader. 
>> There are 4 lessons in this course. The first lesson is 2 chapters, the second lesson is 2 chapters, the third lesson is 5 chapters, and the fourth lesson is 3 chapters.
>> Once again there are 4 multiple choice exams. No time limit, open book...pretty much same as the other classes.
>> Something new to this class was the discussion boards. There were 4 required discussion boards. They are not graded though. After posting a response, you will receive a P grade. I couldn't find any info on how many other posts we needed to respond to, so just to be safe, I responded to two for each post. There is no discussion of the posts though.
>> There are webinars required for this course. You are required to attend 3 and they seem to be offered every week. They last an hour. You don't have to go every week, just as long as you attend 3 total. You are required to participate in the webinars by answering questions and giving feedback. After you attend 3 webinars, the instructor will give you a P for pass under the class participation section.
>> The final for this class is a final project. You have to read a case study and evaluate the company Southwest Airlines. Overall, I didn't find the final project too difficult if you understand the material. A lot of it is your opinion of the company, but you do have to back up your opinions with facts. All the instructions for the project are included in the study guide. I haven't gotten my final project grade yet, but I'll update when I do.
>> Don't forget to add the class to your ACE transcript after you get your final grade.
>> This course definitely has some overlap from a few of my other courses. Especially SWOT analysis, ethics, and a little bit of accounting.
Other than that, the course is pretty similar to the others I've done. Hopefully, that was helpful to anyone looking to take the course.

UPDATE: Well, I just got the grade back for my final project!! I got a 90 on the project so that means I have a 95 as the overall grade for the course!! :hurray: Federal Income Taxation and then I'm DONE!!!!

Thanks for all the updates, my boss mentioned yesterday that it would be in my interest to get an accounting degree and become a C.P.A which has been part of my degree plan #2. I'm sure someone has answered this question before elsewhere regarding Penn Foster. In the state of Illinois the current requirement for becoming a C.P.A is that the courses taken be regionally accredited. It was my impression in the past that Penn Foster wasn't regionally accredited has this changed? If their accounting credits are regionally accredited it would be a much less expensive route for me while staying at home with my daughter.

From my understanding, Penn Foster classes are NOT regionally accredited. Some of their classes are ACE accredited (which TESC accepts so that's why I'm using them). If the CPA requirements say that the courses must be regionally accredited, then I would do some more research before taking PF classes. Perhaps you could contact the state board and ask about PF classes.

I did a little research on this for a friend (not in IL), and I think you may want to look at the requirements again. It looked to me like the SCHOOL where you got a business or accounting degree had to be regionally accredited, but each individual course did not. I may be wrong, but I would double-check that.
