Fast Masters Degree?

publius2k4 Wrote:For most government jobs, cost isn't so much of an issue. Most government employees can have their loan balance forgiven after 10 years of on time payments....and the payments are based on income. So say a student earns an MBA and has $50,000 in student loans: Their monthly payment is around $100 per month (based on $30k annual salary). After 10 years, they would have paid $12k, and the remaining $38k would be forgiven. I know this is not an option for most people, but it is something to think about.

Yes, that's how I plan to pay off my debt. Big Grin But seriously, you have to make sure that you work for the government or a non-profit organization for 10 years while making 120 consecutive payments. If you ever leave and end up at a private organization, then you have to start all over.

The conservative tax payer in me really doesn't like the incentive for people to work for the gubmint or non-profit to get a windfall paid for by my tax dollars.
I wish that option did not exist.

Most conservative tax payers I know have no compunction taking advantage of such opportunities when it serves their interests... just sayin' Smile

If it is there then go ahead and take it. I don't like $7500 government tax credits for people buying electric vehicles either. I would lobby against that. But if it is there then go ahead and take it because you and your family are paying for it anyway.

Have you ever received a subsidized student loan? If so, then you received help from the "gubmint." Even though you weren't in-state, you completed two degrees at a college that's subsidized by New Jersey taxpayers.

Not to mention gasoline is heavily subsidized by the "gubmint". I'm surprised how many people I have encountered who do not realize this.

I graduated from a B&M school in Burbank, CA with a MA in Organizational Leadership in one year. Woodbury University's program is done in person, although one class was done online. Classes are one night a week for five weeks. You get five weeks off around the holidays. No other breaks but only one class at a time. The program was and I believe still is half the cost of other graduate programs there because they have some off site cohorts through local government agencies. Total cost was about 15,000 for tuition. I finished my Bachelor's from Excelsior in May 2012 and started graduate school at Woodbury August 2012 and graduated August 2013.
