We could come up with a better list.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Agreed.....let's make a list and post it in the Wiki.

I'll start

Myth 1 - You MUST attend college for at least 4 years before you can graduate.
Myth 2 - You cannot receive credit for anything you didn't learn in a classroom.
Myth 3 - You cannot graduate from college without going to class.

Myth - You have to choose between "a B&M school" and "an online school."

Myth - You have to choose between taking courses B&M, and taking courses online/by CBE.

Myth - The best fit for a strongly religious student is necessarily at a religious school.

Myth - CBE or online learning is only for students of some particular learning style. Of course, like for accomplishment in any area, success in this area requires some personal qualities! But myths along this line would include that "it's only for hard-core book learners," or for "the Internet generation," "it can't work for me because I'm a strongly audiovisual learner," etc.

Myth - You cannot receive a proper education through self-study or online courses.

There's this guy online who says that you receive a degree and not an education through online schooling. He believes the actual education comes from working with professors in person. Of course, there were a couple of times I had to "educate" him on issues of higher education such as accreditation. And, of course, I'm not educated because I took all of my undergraduate and masters courses online.

Myth - Expensive, for-profit colleges are the only option for those who have to work full-time, have children to care for, and/or can't leave the house a lot due to a disability.

Myth - I need a criminal justice degree to become a cop.

Myth - Employers can always tell when you've taken courses or earned a degree online.

Myth - Online courses are always more expensive than ground courses.

Myth - Cheating is more common among online students.

Myth - Online courses won't transfer.

Myth - All for-profit colleges are diploma mills.

A school that is accredited cannot be a diploma mill according to the definition given by the federal government.

Myth - Credits from for-profit colleges won't transfer.

If the school is regionally accredited, there is a high likelihood the credits will transfer.

Myth - University of Penis, Deprive University, and the other big for-profits are either unaccredited or not regionally accredited.

most of the myths you all are coming up with have nothing to do with credit by exam
