I'm new here and here's my situation!
#1
Hello everyone,

I just discovered CLEP (and other options) for testing and am very interested.

Here is my situation...

I need to upgrade a professional license, however the requirements are to have an AA OR at least 21 semester credits as listed below. The problem has always been 1) time 2)cost 3)math requirement - I didn't test into statistics class

The bigger challenge is on January 1st 2015 the new requirement changes to upgrade my license go from this:

Quote:21 semester credit hours in
specified collegiate subject matter
courses from an accredited college
or university OR an Associate’s
degree or higher.

to this:

Quote:Bachelor’s degree or higher (in any
field) from an accredited college or
university.

As it stands right now, I have to meet the following requirements:

Quote:DOCUMENTATION OF ASSOCIATE DEGREE, OR HIGHER, FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE, JUNIOR COLLEGE,
COMMUNITY COLLEGE, OR UNIVERSITY:
a. Applicant must attach a copy of applicant’s associate degree, or higher, OR college transcript of successfully passing a total of
at least 21 semester credit hours of collegiate subject matter courses in (1) English composition; (2) principles of economics,
micro or macro; (3) finance; (4) algebra, geometry or higher mathematics; (5) statistics; (6) introduction to computers—word
processing/spreadsheets; and (7) business or real estate law. Applicant must number the courses listed on the transcript to
match these required subject matter courses.

Is this something I could take CLEP tests on and have UOP or somewhere similar (I'm in AZ) give me credit for?

I really appreciate any feedback. I've dragged my feed on upgrading my license for a long time due to the education piece. This may be the motivation I need to do it. I have some college credit that may fulfill the economics, finance, computers and business credits.

If you already have some college credit, you might try asking that college if you could send CLEP scores to them to put on your transcript. If they will let you, then just take the CLEPs and have them sent to that school. Are you interested in possibly completing a degree, or do you want to stop at 21 credits?

Scratch University of Phoenix off your list. I don't know if a credit bank transcript will work for you. Thomas Edison State College, Charter Oak State College, and Excelsior College offer credit banks for a few hundred dollars.

They are old from years ago when I attended, I'll have to look at exactly which courses they were. I am not currently enrolled anywhere. I do want to obtain a degree, but if I could get credit for these first and include have them added to my transcript so I can apply for upgraded licensing prior to Jan 1st that would be most beneficial.

Thank you for the response. I did not know about credit bank transcripts. I'm reading up on them now.

This is a list of POSSIBLE options, but there are several other options in each category for you. Either of the Big 3 will bank these credits for you, and put them on a transcript for a fee.

CLEP College Composition – 6 Credit Hours
CLEP Introductory Business Law – 3 Credit Hours
CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications – 3 Hours
ALEKS Statistics – 3 Credit Hours
ALEKS College Algebra – 3 Credit Hours
CLEP Macroeconomics – 3 Credit hours
or
CLEP Microeconomics – 3 Credit Hours

Completing 6 exams in 11 months is TOTALLY doable.

You can easily earn an Associate's degree within the year from TESC, depending upon what previous college credits you have, professional licenses, and work experience. Earning a BA within a year is also very possible.

TESC will be the quickest for an associates degree; COSC is probably the cheapest.

publius2k4 - Thank you for the list. If I went this route, who would you then transfer the credits to? I've been researching, but given the massive amount of info I've been consuming about this today I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. TESC or charter oak? I sent an email to Excelsior explaining basically where I'm at and trying to go to get their guidance as well.

I appreciate everyone's responses!

If I were in your situation, I would plan an associates with the intent of continuing to a Bachelor's degree in business administration. If you look at my signature, there is a BSBA General spreadsheet listed. This will give you a template for Thomas Edison State College to start plugging in the various Aleks, CLEP, DSST, college courses. You should be able to finish the requirements for an Associates in a year.
TESC 2015 - BSBA, Computer Information Systems

TESC 2019 - 21 Post-bachelor accounting credits
