Easiest/Quickest 1-Credit FEMA Courses
#1
Hey There,

I am debating whether or not to take one or more FEMA courses for my electives. Could you please post which courses TESC accepts that were easiest/quickest for you (and roughly how long it took you to do it/them)? I would greatly appreciate it. Also, please only include courses that are 1 credit in their own right (i.e. no courses that require other courses that aren't given credit to be taken).

Many thanks,

Lemurian Spirit

I am not a TESC student, but found this site above. I guess these are the ones that they accept.

The PDS series is a good place to start. I see that TESC accepts 235.b, 2.40a, 2.41a, 2.42a.

I think that some of the FEMA PDS are pretty easy Emergency Mangagement Institute | Professional Development Series (PDS)

Particularly these 4:
IS-240.a - Leadership & Influence
IS-241.a - Decision Making and Problem Solving
IS-242.a - Effective Communication
IS-244.b - Developing and Managing Volunteers

All pretty straightforward,and I think TESC takes them all.

I wouldn't say the Exercise Design is easy though, unless you have background in EM.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Thanks bunches. I appreciate all your feedback. I hadn't noticed that TESC accepted the PDS series, or hadn't differentiated those from the rest, though if I was going to take my remaining 19 credits in FEMAs (which I'm not now, since I just finished 6 Straighterline credits and plan to have 3 more done by Tuesday) I would have included those. At this point I plan to have 9 of my 19 remaining credits done via Straighterline courses by Tuesday (when TESC is open again). At that point I will only need 10 more credits and could easily do six of them through Straighterline and the rest as FEMAs, but I will talk with TESC and see what they say. I really wanted to get this straightened out last Friday, but just barely got enrolled by the deadline, and by then everyone else had gone home. Many thanks for all your help.

Why do you need to talk to TESC? Chances are most of the phone people know nothing about FEMA.

Good to know. I was going to talk with the registrar on Tuesday anyway because when I enrolled on Friday it was too late to register for my Capstone course (everyone had gone home). Since others have had various courses/exams not accepted (or have had to run the gamut getting them accepted--see http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...to-my.html) I was hoping to head a lot of frustration off at the pass by getting things planned in. I want things to go as smoothly as possible so that whenever I get my Capstone done there will hopefully be no unpleasant surprises. Also, when I mentioned FEMA credits to the registrar I was dealing with initially there seemed to be a complete understanding about those on her part. Maybe I just got lucky and spoke with a more knowledgeable person. I'm not sure on that. Anyway, if you have any other suggestions I'm happy to hear them, but so far I am pretty thrilled with my Straighterline progress and seem to be on a roll with that. BTW, do you get grades for FEMAs?

Many thanks

No grades for FEMAs. Either pass, or don't pass and try again.

So far I'm enjoying getting good grades at Straighterline, but I will think about this more and let you all know what I decide. Many thanks again for all the info.

You are aware that your SL grades don't transfer to TESC, right? Pass or fail.

FEMA is popular because it's $0 free credit. No cost to take or transfer at all. In fact, when you take the online quizzes, if you don't pass, you take them again; it's all done at home instantly.
Straighterline= cost money
FEMA= no money
