I was reading back through some old e-mails, & realize that the last college I attended (an art college) had granted me credit for 5 classes based on a portfolio review. I haven't seen my transcript from the school, but I'm wondering if these will transfer just like any other course for credit into another school. The classes are:
- RS2363 Principals of Digital Photography for Elective Credit (based on personal photography portfolio) - 3 quarter credits
- CC1303 Color Theory (Based on graphic design portfolio) - 3 quarter credits
- CC1309 Fundamentals of Design (Based on graphic design portfolio) - 3 quarter credits
- RS1312 Observational Drawing (Based on portfolio of chalk drawings) - 3 quarter credits
- CA1353 Acting & Movement (Based on a letter from my HS drama teacher, directly to the art school, stating I'd complete after 5 semesters of acting, 1 dance class, & performed in community theatre) - 3 quarter credits
I already have the following from the community college that were done on film cameras:
PHO101 - Photography I - 3 semester cr
PHO102 - Photography II - 3 semester cr
PHO202 - Photography III - 3 semester cr
PHO232 - Portrait Photography - 3 semester cr
In addition I have the following credits from a different art school:
FND110 - Analysis of Form - 3 semester
FND112 - Figure Drawing I - 3 semester
I'm really still thinking I'll probably end up at TESC with either a BA or BS probably through the LDAS program. I'm just trying to figure out how this will all transfer in. I want to try to collect as many applicable credits as I can before I even apply to the school. So will TESC actually accept the 5 courses for credit? Or will they be tossed out since I didn't actually take the classes, nor acquire the actual PLA through either TESC or LearningCounts?
Oh, & I also had an interview today with a marketing department for a company in the Aerospace Defense industry. They seemed to be impressed by the FEMA & TEEX credits/certificates! :-)

As long as they appear on a regionally accredited transcript from a community college, college, or university then they should transfer in. The quarter hours would convert to semester credits (3 quarter credits = 2 semester hours). To find matching courses at TESC you can start by searching their course database (which shows almost all of the courses in their database including those they don't teach but match credits to). You might check out the BA in Art as it would allow you to bring together Art, photography, and your figure drawing courses into your degree. The trick will be making sure all of the credits come from a school that is regionally accredited and not a "technical school" in the mind of TESC.

My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

That is super helpful, thank you! Particularly the part about the credit equivalency is very useful.

I didn't see a BA in Art (as in fine art or computer art) listed in the undergrad program. Here's what I'm seeing:

Thomas Edison State College: Art This isn't listed in their Online Programs though... so I'm not sure what to make of that. I assume I'd still qualify.

Degrees that aren't under the "online" list just mean you have to transfer in more credit. The online list can be completed 100% at TESC but as you've found you should have a stack of credits to transfer in. The only degree that I know of that requires TESC attendance is their program in nursing.

They probably will, but it's a third party assessment of sorts, so it would be a little like if you started TESC for your degree and they accepted FEMA but transferred to another college mid-stream. The new college gets decide if they accept FEMA. PLA is kinda like that because your old school "decided" to award the credit. I'm not sure how RA comes into play, it might, but it might not. I think you might be okay, but yours is a good question and I'd like to see the outcome.
PS If they deny it, be sure to have them forward to you the policy that deals with how they made that decision.
