I am doing ALEKS right now. If you do not make 70% or more on the first assessment you can either take it again through your master account or do some of your PIE and then take it again. Note that if your like me and make a low score (32%) then I highly recommend that you do some of the learning in the pie before reassessing. I say this because once your done with your first assessment the grading scale changes and is then based off of your PIE chart. This begin said if you say scored a 32% on your first test you would not be able to score a 70% on your second test without first doing some of the PIE chart learning. I know its weird and I don't fully understand the grading scale but if you try to reassess without first knocking out some of the PIE chart, you can only go up like 10% per test.(I know this because I used my text book to help me with some of the harder problems instead of doing the pie thinking this would be quicker and still allow me to learn them.)

I did Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, PreCalculus, and Statistics. I think all of my initial assessments were all under 33%, and I don't think I'm stupid. It took about a week for me to get through the two algebra courses --- working about 4 hours each evening and 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday. It took a little longer for statistics, because I didn't know anything about statistics. I used Statistics for Dummies to learn a little, but it was boring and didn't help much. It also took a little longer for precalculus because it had a LOT of topics, so it took a while to get to 70% (two and a half weeks).

I also took statistics before taking precalculus. This was a mistake. A lot of precalculus is algebra, and by the time I finished statistics I'd forgotten how to do some of the algebra problems. They weren't hard, but I needed a reminder, and this meant I had to redo a bunch of algebra.

If you are thinking of taking precalculus because you plan to do calculus later then I'd say don't bother. Just do Trig instead, because most of the precalculus course is just a lot of algebra. There isn't anything on things like limits or basic calculus. I think the only calculus related problem I had was finding a difference quotient. I would have done better to focus on Trig instead.

I'm assuming that you were directing your question at me, so I'll go ahead and answer. From what I recall, I didn't think that either one was easier than the other. They are pretty much the same other than the Business Stats has more of a business focus.

Hope this helps!

HorseManiac, what is the best/fastest way to complete Aleks at 70% (after the initial test). I've taken 4 assessment tests and only reached a mark of 26% on progress bar...please tell me there's a easier to 70??! :willynilly:
