Easiest brick and mortar fully transferable math course.

My son is still one math course away from an A.A. degree after several months. If he could pass CLEP College Mathematics, CLEP College Algebra, or DSST Statistics, he'd be done. Personally I think DSST Statistics is the easiest to pass for a person who hates computations but is willing to memorize, but that is a digression.

Straighterline isn't accepted by his community college. He needs an online course from a brick and mortar school. Ideally it would be something with frequent unproctored tests over small amounts of material. I don't expect to find such a course. If he can't find an online course he can make a transferrable C in, then I suppose Straighterline with TESC or COSC is the only option for a degree.

Getting an A.A. degree is only half the battle. To get a B.A. from a brick and mortar school in our state, which is our preference, he needs credit for both College Algenra and either a Logic or Statistics course. We'd like to get credits for those courses over and done with once and for all.

Take a look at University of Idaho Courses-Independent Study in Idaho-University of Idaho In particular their Intro to Statistics looks pretty good. They do require proctored exams....but are open to education officers at a business, librarians, testing center staff, etc. looks like 5 exams and 6 lesson submissions for the stats class.

You might try the BYU offering, it looks pretty doable too.

My daughter was in the same situation...needing only Algebra to finish her AA. She tried the offering from Arkansas State but the grade was based solely on the mid term and final, not a tenable solution. I hired her a tutor and she started working through a textbook (about 10 hours tutoring over say three weeks). She then took the College Algebra CLEP....and failed by three points (she had passed 9 other exams at that point without breaking a sweat...bad exam). She regrouped, focused on her weaknesses for about 8 days. Spent another 4-6 hours with the tutor during that time. Took the DSST Algebra and tore it up with a 440. Thought she was set.

While the School catalog states the DSST equals College Algebra, the registrar only wanted to give credit for Intermediate. She swapped polite e-mails back and forth pleading her case and eventually the registrar agreed to award the College Algebra credit based on her high score. Success!!!

She really did feel that the DSST was easier...but I think she just happened to catch that right version of the test that happened to emphasize her strengths.

He could always take the College Algebra course through KCTCS. Since this is part of the Kentucky CC system it should be fully transferrable. It's all online and there are no proctored exams from what I understand.

Could LSU be an option? LSU's Independent and Distance Learning Mathematics Courses
I hear the minimum time one can complete is 6 weeks, though 9 months is the max. Price is about $400 per course.
EDIT: I forgot... It's my understand that a Proctor is required for at least the Midterm and Final.

Well bummer. It's only right there in black and white but I missed it. Duh! lol Still, it could be an option I guess even though it is pricey.

I know this sounds stupid, but I hadn't done higher math in 30 years and was in the same boat. I worked with a math tutor for ten hours and then worked with ALEKS and finally took the straighterline algebra and passed in one week. The tutor could help her with her weak spots and SL was the best option for me at the time.

Sorry no advice for the statistics, took that one at UTK and passed, no problem.
