Passing Straighterline Accounting I and II

This thread is a fountain of information, insight, and tips! Thank you all! I plan on signing up for all 3 SL courses next week (ACCT 1, ACCT 2, and Managerial Accounting). I'm going to try to start and finish all three in 28 days. Is that a good or bad idea? Also, if I've already canceled my monthly subscription, but run into some trouble, can I "reup" it for at least another month AND not lose all my progress?
I've spent this week "getting a head start" by going through the book and getting familiar with SL's system. Granted it's a demo, but they have Acct 1, on there... are these the same as the real course, cause I've already gone through them? I know I'll have to go through it a second time, when I sign up, but I'll already be familiar with it.
One last question. I bought the book for Acct 1, and 2, on amazon used and an earlier edition (18th edition) at a good price. I went to check for the Managerial Accounting book and on the SL site, the ISBN number and title don't match! If you search for the ISBN number that SL listed, you'll come up with a book that isn't the same as the title that SL listed. Does anyone know what's up with that and/or which book it really is? They look similar, but I don't feel like taking a gamble (they are by the same author).

I am not sure about the Managerial Accounting (Hilton) text, but I got the 8th edition and the chapters line up with the chapters in the 9th edition, so I am hopeful. The ISBN for the 8th edition is 978-0-07-128551-3 and I got mine shipped for $4 off Amazon.

I will let you know when I finish how fast the Managerial Accounting can be completed, but is there a reason you are signing up for them all at once, not completing them and then signing up for the next?

Have you done the SL Business Communications? That was really doable in a weekend. It took me about a day and a half, including the report, letter of inquiry, and resume.

One nice thing about SL is that it took less than one hour for them to transcript it to the ACE transcript after requesting it.

I PASSED!!!!! Managerial Accounting (Cost Accounting for TESC!) It was HARD for me, but it is doable, and even more doable if you have taken accounting recently (I hadn't taken accounting in 20 years!) The math on the tests was easy, but you had to know where to plug the numbers in. And if you aren't so great at plugging the numbers into the correct spots, you can still pass/nearly pass with the terms and concepts. I would say about 30% of the test problems were actual accounting entry type/math problems (which always gave me the most trouble).

I didn't do any of the assignments, or listen to but one of the lectures. I listened to the very first lecture and it had nothing at all to do with what was on the test, so that was the last time I did that.

The tests took 1 hour 15 minutes each (for the 4, 4 chapter tests) 2 hours for the midterm, and 3 hours for the final. It took me every bit of time to finish. And the scrolling back and forth is so slow that it takes a lot of the time.

I did the 4, 4 chapter tests first, then the midterm, then the final. The final is weighted higher, but it only covers half the book, like the midterm does. I started on Friday and finished a few minutes ago.

I got the 8th edition, international version, of Hilton's Managerial Accounting off Amazon and it was perfect. YOU CAN NOT DO THIS WITHOUT THE BOOK. DON'T EVEN TRY! The terms and concepts were all from the book, almost verbatim, though they were hard to find when each test covered a few hundred pages. The book was $4 shipped, used, when I got mine.

I am beyond thrilled to be done with this, but I would recommend it to anyone who is okay decent at accounting, for sure. Accounting is not my strong suit, but I passed. So if I can, most people could.

I passed SL Acct 2 today; I'm so happy! Only 12 credits left to my BSBA from TESC:

Biology Clep: 6 credits
trigonometry Aleks: 3 credits
Org Theory, TESC online class, 2 weeks into it: 3 credits

I hope to have everything done by July 1 with a September 1 graduation date. I could not have done it without IC and all the wonderful, supportive people on these boards!

Like akeefe, I too have passed SL's Accounting II today! Only 2 more courses through Straighterline to go...

If anyone needs the textbook for this course, which of course is also good for Accounting I, I'm selling it for a total of $5.00 - that's it! That should be cheaper than anywhere else you can find it (if you do find it cheaper, buy it there of course!). This price covers the cost of the packing envelope and postage by USPS Media Mail, so if I make anything it will be pennies. This is a way to give something back to the folks at IC Forum and help out somebody who needs to take this course. From what I can tell you could also use this book as a study aid in prepping for the CLEP Financial Accounting exam if you prefer to do that instead. A few caveats:

Can someone please confirm that TESC takes SL Managerial Accounting as filling the BSBA Managerial Accounting slot? I read in another post that it transfers in as Cost Accounting, but I'm not sure if that fills the same slot. My accounting CLEP study guide (Financial Accounting Demystified) shows them as two separate courses in its "typical curriculum" list.

SL's Accounting II transfers to TESC as Managerial Accounting; SL's Managerial Accounting transfers to TESC as Cost Accounting.

I'm going to sign up for Financial Accounting (or Accounting I) tonight. I am definitely worried. I purchased the 9th edition and I plan to start on it tonight..Anyone got any tips?

I just finished SL's Managerial Accounting. Ugh. Much tougher but still doable! Chalk up another 3 credits from Straighterline with 1 more course to go through them!

I wish that SL had more business courses...
