Math requirement
#1
What is everyone taking for Math that is enrolled in the LA program for Excelsior? Is there Liberal Arts Math or any other kind of math besides Algebra. I don't want to clep it and don't want to take algebra in a classroom. Are there any other options?

I completed the requirement with a course from Penn Foster College (Technial Math 1). It wasn't too bad and it gave me 3 math credits and my diploma.

Now EC does offer a basic math class too, I believe it dosn't require any proctored exams and is a little bit more $$, but perhaps a good alternative too.

Good Luck!

I'm taking Penn Foster Math also. I think it's dreadful!!! The way they explain things does not compute in my brain. However, I have not had Math in thirty years so that probably accounts for much of the problem.

My 18 yr old daughter is completing her two yr associates degree and said I should have taken Contemporary Math at Everett Community College, WA. Now she tells me.

She said it applies to their AA transfer programs and it's easy. I don't know whether they have a distance class or not. But perhaps you can find something similar, approved by Excelsior of course, in your area.

Bro,

I would stay away from anything that has to do with calculus. hilarious

I don't want to take algebra. There is a class called Liberal Arts Math that I might take this fall at my local college. So pen foster is a big no huh? I think I might work on my upper level ECE's right now and take math a little later maybe in August when the fall semester starts. Ill keep yall posted.

I pulled this from the EC website. It runs $800.00+ but from what I have heard it is manageable.

Precalculus is basically upper level algebra with trigonometry. So no, the material provided here, while helpful in preparing for Precalculus as background information, perhaps, will not come close to fully preparing you for the Precalculus CLEP. It is there to prepare you for the College Mathematics CLEP, which is far easier than the Precalculus CLEP.

As I have recently written on this forum, there is very little in the way that can appropriately prepare one for the CLEP Precalculus exam at the moment. REA has a book coming out in June, but the passyourclass materials are substandard to say the least.

I am taking this class right now, and it is ridiculously easy, but I am not paying for it, my employer is! ($675)
19 DSST attempted - 54 credits awarded (1 unsuccessful)
11 CLEP attempted - 24 credits awarded (5 unsuccessful)
1 ECE attempted - 3 credits

I looked at a pre-c book at B&N and it's definitely out of my league... I'm working on my BS Business Management with Strayer and they require either pre-c or logic... guess I'll take the in classroom logic - been too many years since I've studied math to actually hope to understand it at this point in my life. Thanks all!
