BA - Communications - sabwilliams - 04-29-2009 I need 12 credits to complete my communications electives, but I didn't see anything listed for CLEP or DSST. Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this w/o taking courses? I'm a student @ Thomas Edison and their communication courses are somewhat limiting. I would have taken a TECEP exam, but the school pulled these exams. Any advise? Thanks BA - Communications - MaieJaie - 04-30-2009 Dantes' exam offerings include a couple of communications courses: Principles of Public Speaking Technical Writing Ohio University also offers credit-by-exam. Their tuition is comparable to Excelsior and Thomas Edison's credit-by-exams. It's the only exam I could find that hasn't already been mentioned. Good luck! BA - Communications - alleycat - 05-04-2009 University of Idaho has independant study courses for $100 per credit. Journalism and Mass Media Jamm 265 Principles of Advertising Jamm 364 Advertising Media Planning These might fit the bill for you. BA - Communications - verity-business - 05-05-2009 You might try looking into some of the TECEP exams still offered such as Marketing Communications. Generally TESC accepts that into the communications program even through it is technically a marketing credit. BA - Communications - Levi - 08-13-2010 Just wanted to bump this thread for any Comm majors on the forum.... I have a friend who is considering a BA in Communications from Thomas Edison, and needs ideas on how to quickly knock out her Communications Electives (preferably by credit-by-exam as much as possible). Here are some viable options I've gathered so far: Exams: Public Speaking - DSST Technical Writing - DSST Public Relations - TECEP Marketing Communications - TECEP Intro to News Reporting - TECEP Business Communications - Ohio U History of American Journalism - Ohio U Communication Law - Ohio U Any other ideas for credit-by-exam? Here is the credit distribution template for BA Communications - TESC: Thomas Edison State College | BA in Communications Credit Distribution BA - Communications - MelB8tz - 09-23-2010 You mention "4 quarter hours"--are there different "qualities" of hours? E.g., are "quarter hours" and "semester hours" inherently different? MaieJaie Wrote:Ohio University also offers credit-by-exam. Chief pros and cons: Semesters: pro -- more time for in-depth study; con, can't think of one, maybe that it makes summer term kind of intense. Quarters: pro -- more variety of study, classes feel easier because they are shorter; con: more money for books, 180 feels like more than 120. Point is moot for exam credit... Phillip |
