Getting HAKA access with Xamk? - freddiebear - 04-12-2022

So glad I found this forum!

I'm trying to get some CS credits from the University of Helsinki. I was told that one could get a HAKA account through Xamk so I enrolled in the course Fundamentals of strategic management that will start on 19th Apr. I'm confused about the specific how-to for getting a HAKA access after this though, and Google led me here.

I'm very new to this kind of forum and not sure if I did the searching right, but I did search for "Xamk" here and am still a bit confused, it would be so great that if anyone could kindly advise me for the next step! I found the wiki but am unsure about whom to contact for the HAKA access, and all I have now is the confirmation email after enrolment.

Any help would be much appreciated! And sorry if my writing seem weird, English is not my first language.

Did you read the thread linked to from the wiki? https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Finnish-Universities-XAMK-etc-incl-CS-IT-courses

You won't have HAKA access until the course opens and you have access to Learn on XAMK. I think they process the "nonstop start" enrolments once a month, so you'll get your login data in May. I think.

Thank you so much! Guess I'll just have to wait for a while.

Welcome to the board! What languages do you know? Is there some reason you're using these for Computer Science credits? You should verify with the school you intend to transfer these to that they will award credits for these courses. Is there a specific college or university you're looking at to enroll in later down the road? Basically, your best option and my recommendation - I would be on the safe side and use these courses/credits for knowledge, you can confirm with the other universities that they will take these credits for transfer...

Hello and thanks for replying! I do speak Chinese/Cantonese (if it's natural language that you're talking) but it's way more difficult to find accredited courses in those as I'm currently not a student anymore. I'll be studying an MSc in Europe soon though and am thinking about reaching out to my department to change my programme to CS (I am in the same department with CS but my academic background would probably get me rejected if I applied for CS directly so I took a detour), so I assumed that getting some European CS credits before the semester starts might help?
(And yes I do want to learn the courses for knowledge but the ECTS is a bonus I can't miss lol, I think most of the European Unis are fine with recognising ECTS credits)

I know about FS Open, but I don't remember any functional programming ones. Which/where are those? I think you can also do the AI ones, if that interests you: https://www.elementsofai.com/

Has anyone tried getting a HAKA login from Laurea ?

I received the following e-mail after registering with Laurea . But I don't know how to get HAKA credentials.
Also, this e-mail seems to imply that the Laurea student account will become inactive after 9 months of no enrollment.
If that is the case, then you lose access to your credits, no ?

The e-mail says that in such a case, you can go to the website https://opintopolku.fi/oma-opintopolku/ to access your credits.
But upon visiting that website, it says
"My Studyinfo provides services for identified and logged in users. The services available are listed below. You can access these services in My Studyinfo only by logging in via Suomi.fi e-Identification with Finnish online banking credentials (e-identification must be enabled), a Finnish electronic ID-card or mobile certificate. Identification methods for foreigners in Suomi.fi e-Identification are not currently supported. "

Does XAMK have this problem too ? (i.e. the student login becoming inactive after a few months)
Or does XAMK provide you with a national student ID ?

Anyway, the email from Laurea follows:

"""We have received your payment of {paid_total} concerning the following courses offered by Laurea Open UAS:

    R0416 - Python-ohjelmointi

Your enrollment for the course is now confirmed.

Please notice that after receiving this message it will take approximately three working days that your information will be transferred to our student registration system. Only after that you will be able to activate your Laurea user account.

Please read the instructions carefully below to ensure that you get your studies started without any problems.
