Help get me on the right path to a Business Degree (TESU) - rodaco - 03-03-2018 I was a lurker years ago, but never got onto a set degree path. Having decided to re-explore the possibility, seems that many things have changed and new options are now available. I'm looking to get a BSBA - GM from TESU (unless there's something faster/better that will get me towards a business degree of some sorts). I currently have the following: CLEP: College Algebra, American Government, Intro to Sociology ALEKS: Business Statistics, Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra (all completed by 2015) LSU: Financial Accounting Just finished this weekend some of the freebies: SOPHIA: Managing Conflict, Dev. Effective Teams The Institute: Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct So far I have the ALEKS banked at ACE and waiting on the SOPHIA + Institute to populate. I'm planning on ordering the ACTFL Language Proficiency (both an Oral and Written) for a language other than English. I think I will likely get close to Advanced / Proficient for this. I do not have the ability to drive for proctoring (one of the reasons in the past this never took off for me) and I prefer self-paced / on my own time with and preferably as fast as I can. Not sure I have understood the distinction and benefit of SL / Study.com / Sophia / Saylor? Are the differences cost, time or other transferability? If anyone would be willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated. TIA RE: Help get me on the right path to a Business Degree (TESU) - dfrecore - 03-03-2018 SL is more textbook based, while Study.com is more video-based. With SL it is possible to get enough points on exams that you can get a 0 on the final and still pass. For Study.com, the final normally counts for 1/3 of the grade, and you need to get something like 55% on the final to pass the course if you get 100% on the quizzes (they tell you in advance what you need to score on the final to pass the course). This is assuming that the course is LL - if it's UL, then the numbers change somewhat, as there are additional assignments to be completed. Study.com has WAY more courses than SL (I think 112 vs. 56 last time I checked), and a lot more UL. Lots more choices. Sophia is too expensive in my opinion, unless you get some sort of deal - but I like the dashboard that they have, it's the best of the bunch. Doesn't make up for the price though. Saylor has some good courses, and some questionable ones. Lots of broken links, too much content to comfortably get through in most cases. But if you just wanted to take a course to try to test out (possibly with little to no studying) $25 can't be beat. |
