CPA Calif info re: PLA credits - tesu-acct-student - 03-10-2016 Hi all, Based on feedback here, I decided to write to the state accountancy board here in California for clarification regarding using PLA credits. This is because some of their info indicated that they will only accept up to four credits that are "internships/independent studies in accounting and/or business-related subjects." I was worried that PLA might count as independent study. So I wrote to them this morning. Here is what I said: Quote:I am an older university student majoring in accounting. I have a question about something I saw on your organization's info sheet called: Here is the reply: Quote:In response to your email, we are not familiar with this type of program and normally an internship involves working at a company. However, if for this program you describe in your email, your college gives you semester or quarter units, printed on an official transcript(s) and labeled as an internship or independent study course, we more than likely will accept this. Please keep in mind that I cannot 100 percent guarantee that this will be accepted, without viewing the actual official transcript. What do you think? CPA Calif info re: PLA credits - dfrecore - 03-10-2016 I personally think that their meaning of "independent study" is not the same as your meaning of it. Theirs has to do with learning in the field, as an internship, which you can get credits for at most colleges. Independent study in your world (on this forum in particular) is studying for a subject on your own, then taking an exam to show that you know the info, or creating a PLA to show that you have the knowledge you would learn in a class. How does TESU show a PLA course on your transcript? Do they just give you the credit as if you took the course? Is there any way the Accountancy Board would even know that it was not a "normal" way to take it? Yea, I guess I just needed confirmation. I've been reading some of the CPA threads where there have been issues regarding acceptance of credits. CPA Calif info re: PLA credits - davewill - 03-11-2016 Here's a slice of my unofficial transcript. The first two courses are PLA, the last was a DSST, and the others were regular classes. The only apparent difference is the classes have grades.
