Straighterline + NYS Teacher Certification - Classie83 - 05-05-2012 Hi everyone. This is my first post. I was conditionally accepted to a DL Masters in Education in program at a well known top 25 university. They recommended Straighterline to me because they would not accept my Statistics course. It was a B- instead of a B. They wanted me to score at least an 82.5% on Straighterline College Algebra. Unfortunately, I scored a 71% in the course. Now I don't believe they will accept me. However because I am actually only 3 credits away from receiving my New York State teaching certification, I figured I would try to put my Straighterline score to good use. I was hoping to have one of the Straighterline partner schools transcript my score for a grade that I can send to the NYS Ed. Dept. I already contacted Straighterline and they told me that most schools don't do that because they want you to take classes at their school toward a degree. The rep said that perhaps Excelsior and Charter Oak would do it. I called Excelsior since it is in NY, but they made it seem like they weren't even a parter of Straighterline. They said that Straighterline just prepares test materials and its different from their own tests. Then the rep proceeded to send me information on their upcoming Math courses. I was thoroughly confused. Anyway, I guess my question is: Are there any Straighterline partner schools that will put the College Algebra course on a transcript from their school that I can send to NYS state? Thanks! Straighterline + NYS Teacher Certification - Ace_King - 05-05-2012 It used to be that Fort Hays State University will "Credit-Wash" the courses from Straighterline into Fort Hays State University's transcript as one token the course with them. Those days are over.. Excelsior will issue it as a Pass/Fail. Charter Oak State College will actually issue it with a letter grade, but it will show where the course came from. Straighterline- College Algebra A+ on COSC's transcript. It will not show as if you took the course at COSC. Straighterline + NYS Teacher Certification - Classie83 - 05-05-2012 Thanks for the info. I guess I will just have to take the College Algebra CLEP. I hope I can pass. Straighterline + NYS Teacher Certification - Ace_King - 05-05-2012 If you are a bad test taker like me, you can try to find a college that you can just do the course online. Yeah of course it has it flaws, such as it may be a little bit more expensive and/or longer. Try the CLEP College Algebra, if you fail than see if you can just take the course online. Or you can just re-take the CLEP again, lol. Straighterline + NYS Teacher Certification - Classie83 - 05-05-2012 That's most likely what I'll end up doing. If I don't do well on the CLEP, I might just do one Math course. I'm not a terrible test taker, just not so great in Math. Thanks for the tips! Why not spend another $39 & take it again? |
