help~! only need one class to finish - halloweenvalentine - 03-02-2011 I only need one course (3 credits shy), a natural science one to finish my degree. I believe I can test out by taking the Nutrition CLEP. However, I was hoping to pay for my Tuition Fee (at the very least) by using Financial Aid. Can I qualify for Fin Aid if I take no classes? Would I be stuck taking (one or more) 3 month long classes in order to qualify for aid? I may have also run out of aid money as I have spent 5 years in college. But that time frame, it might be easy to see why I want to get this DONE. Also, I have only done a preliminary credit review at TESC, as I understand one has to take a capstone at Excelsior--and I believe two courses at the other big three ...the Oak one. I plan on getting my BA in Liberal Studies. Also, I am at our the Country in Busan, South Korea--I'm worried about my ability to find a proctor for the CLEP. It seems it is easier to take exams while enrolled in the courses because then I could have an online proctor. But I'm not too fond of the idea of putting such extensive software on my computer. Thank you for all and any advice fellow forum members have on this thread. I've already received a wealth of information just by looking at the site. help~! only need one class to finish - MA2 - 03-02-2011 I don't think there's a Nutrition CLEP exam.... but I just took the DSST Astronomy exam and it wasn't too hard, I've also heard the Natural Sciences CLEP isn't too bad either. I don't know about financial assistance, but each exam is only about 100 bucks so if you can't get aid for it... maybe try to scrape some money together to pay for it? help~! only need one class to finish - halloweenvalentine - 03-03-2011 The cost of the tests isn't a problem, but the overall tuition fee to the university would be the challenge. If avoidable I'd like not to have any more loans. But if I'm not taking ANY classes at TESC I'm not sure I could qualify for any aid. And I meant TECEP test~ for Nutrition But I'll look more into the clep help~! only need one class to finish - halloweenvalentine - 04-28-2011 Just an update I ended up going the straighterline route and I am currently taking a biology course. Apparently there was an oversight on my part and on the advisors part because there was another course I don't have credits for and that's the English (201 or 102) requirement. Which to me is strange because I took one higher level English course, and another lower level English course in addition to English 100. I read of another student who was able to have this requirement filled by similar circumstances (he had AP English and 3 quarters of English) I have 2 semesters (no AP credit though). Just a reminder this is through TESC. In his case he contacted the registar directly and had luck with that, I am not an enrolled student yet though--so I'm not sure I can go the same route. So, if anyone has spoken with the registrar successfully (they changed the academic evaluation) please let me know. Also, if anyone has any study materials for the Biology class it would be mucho appreciated because it's kicking my butt! P.S. does anyone know 1 semester hour is the same as 1 academic credit? |
