If he doesn't respond to this thread, send him a PM. Music Appreciation - rickyjo - 08-19-2010 I took it, and I was satisfied overall. I was not happy with some of the questions which I found subjective but required objective answers. Overall I was quite happy with the book, very interesting and plenty of content. The staff at PFC is great and helpful, just sometimes I feel like new information takes time to distribute to staff, maybe I'm wrong. I also never got straight answers to my questions about ACE, it seems that the staff is fairly unaware of the actual rules surrounding ACE. I called ACE to ask if a D (70%) would transfer so I knew what my minimum grade would be, they didn't know. I called PFC, they said to call ACE and ask what their standards are. I believe PFC was at fault here. My suggestion is to consider 75% your minimum grade even if you have heard otherwise just to be on the safe side. If you do get a 70%, look up geezer's thread on the subject. I was also interested by apparent discrepancies in descriptions of certain events/works in the book vs. online (this was even worse in the art class!). It seems that the book presents the best guesses of experts as facts. This doesn't sit well with me, I want to know if a factoid is a best guess or an actual verified fact. In the end, I think my criticisms apply to nearly all schools, that is why I have avoided traditional (even DL) school like the plague. Bureaucracy doesn't sit well with me, and I am easily frustrated by phone robots (which are on my top ten reasons to blow up the world). I believe it was a good value, I had my complaints but I would still recommend the class with those reservations I mentioned. I really like the fact that the book comes with the class. I wish it didn't say "Penn Foster Edition" on the book, that will make it impossible to sell . Three out of four stars ^-^ Music Appreciation - yolie38 - 08-19-2010 rickyjo, thank you for your in depth response. I really do appreciate it! How long did it take you to complete the class? Did you make a D because it was a hard class, or was it just because you rushed through it or something? What kind of assignments and test did you have? Did you have to listen to a piece of music and then identify it, or something like that? Thanks for your help! Oh, and you seem to smart to blow up the world. That definitely would NOT be a smart thing! Best wishes in your career path. Yolie38 Music Appreciation - yolie38 - 08-19-2010 NAP, thanks for the heads up! Yolie38 Music Appreciation - rickyjo - 08-19-2010 I didn't get a D, i simply wanted to know if I could get a D and still use the class. When one implements ACE to transfer credit the credit becomes pass/fail and the importance of getting a good grade is greatly diminished. I simply wished to know what my minimum grade to transfer the credit to an ACE transcript was, I got an 84% in the class in the end, my goal was a 75% or better. It wasn't too hard, it took me about two weeks to complete. Sorry for the confusion. Don't worry, it's not that hard. As for listening to music and identifying it: no. There was a lot of music to listen to, but it was to identify style and fully understand the mastery of it, the tests were purely textual. |
