Plenty of big systems aren't running on Cobol. My husband hasn't used Cobol in over 15 years. He would find a new career rather than go back to Cobol. His company is in the process of moving to a cloud based system on AWS with Python. He's been working with SQL for over a decade now. He's looking forward to moving onto Python.

Pretty sure it was just a typo leaving out the 2, referring to Python 2.x over Python 3

Yes - probably is. Dang! And I SO wanted to be the first here, to learn this radical new programming language called 3!
