OH NO Tampalizard, and you are so close. at least the light at the end of your tunnel is so bright you need sunglasses. now i'm starting to get worried about this test. math is my strong point but it seems that this test must really be a bear since it's causing everyone to say grrrrrr! like snazz says, just a bump in the road.

They even allow you to take each test/exam twice and only count your highest score towards your grade. It costs $649.20 per 3-credit course (for non-residents). This may be an option worth considering.

Snazzlefrag-
if this is the road you are taking, hopefully there will be no bumps. keep us informed of the test or course you are going to take. this is pretty amazing that you can take this test unproctored, untimed, and open book!

I think the moral of all these recent stories is...

Don't leave the hardest (or your most feared) exams until the end.

Tackle them earlier on if possible so that you have time to execute "Plan B" if necessary. Everybody has their stronger areas and weaker areas. I think recent experiences have shown that it's better to face your beasts sooner rather than later.

My heart goes out to all of you who have struggled with math and science exams lately. Those are my weak areas too.

We will all come out on top in the end though.

I'm taking all of my required classes up front. Being on the Business track I've got Business Policy that must be a class (or an expensive TESC exam...) which I can get reimbursed by my company for anyway. I'll deal with the "other" credits while completing that class.

Sorry to hear you failed this one. College Algebra is a major hurdle for a LOT of people.

I honestly think they should allow "Intro to College Algebra", or "Fundamentals of College Algebra" to be sufficient. They allow "Intro to ...." or "Principles of ...." for many other subjects including many core Business subjects, but not for Algebra. It's a shame really!

I definitely think a course is the way to go for most of us who really don't stand much chance of passing the CLEP. Like you, I will probably take the exam first, just to see. But in the end, I think I too will end up having to take a course.

Don't worry Lynda, you'll make it....this is just a bump in the road.

Good luck,

Absolutely,

They are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (one of the six regional accrediting bodies).

Hope that helps,

Hi Ron,

I'm not actually taking the course myself. I found the web site a few months ago...and saved it just in case I needed it. It seemed appropriate to share the link on the board since so many of us are math-phobics.

If you are interested, I suggest you give them a quick call and ask about the next start date etc. The web page seems to suggest that the course can be in either a 15-week or a 10-week format.

I do know that the class is not self-paced. It follows a set schedule of weekly assignments etc. So that might be something to factor into the equation.

If anyone does contact them about this course, please report your findings on the board so we can all benefit from the additional information.

Thanks,
Snazzlefrag

I have been teaching
Algebra to myself for the past month. I am terrified of math and this is my last class to graduate! I am actually enjoying it but wondering how to make sure I bring my basic knowlege up to the College Algebra level. I have 6 more weeks to do it. Any and all suggestions appreciated. My favorite workbooks are by Learning Express: Algebra Success in 20 Minutes a Day and 501 Algebra Questions.
