Best of luck on Monday tampalizard.

What have you used to prepare for this one?

This exam scares me more than any other. I just can't get motivated to take it. Algebra is my arch-enemy!Sad

No guys, I didn't blaze the way to success but actually burned down the house! I got a MISERABLE 43 on this test...and whats worse I DID STUDY. For long hours and using ALEKS, Standard Deviants, and my math whiz son for resources. I am giving up on trying to CLEP this one. I could have studied forever and not passed because there was stuff on the test I didn't see in any of the material. I should have known when I pulled off the study guide and showed it to my "math genius" son who aced his SATS and took Calculus last year in college...and HE couldn't work at least 50% of the problems. Oh well, obviously the material is out there somewhere as other people DO PASS this test. I am just going to have to delay my degree for another 3-4 months and take this stupid algebra course through excelsior (and of course pay them another $1000.00). As a note, if you know how to work the problems on the study guide...I think you would pass the test. You may just have to find a resource to concentrate on those exact types of questions.

Brian and I understand your pain . We're sorry for the experience , yet I hope you will be redoubled in your efforts to push on. You are a great and positive person to have on this web site. I know the biggest lesson I have learned in passing 25 cleps and dantes and failing two is that it ain't over 'til I get my degree and the everybody else gets theirs as well. There is literally no shame in failing ,but there is pain, shame and a kick in the butt if you don't get over it and get on track . If there is anything I can do to help feel free to ask . We're proud to have you as a member of the Overcomers!!!

Best regards..Ron

That/s too bad about your exam, like Ron said - we share your pain. I started to look for what I hoped for was an easy and inexpensive distant learning course and found the following (see attached). It's from Texas State, only 7 lessons, 1 exam, and LESS THAN $300.00. Further, it was approved by EC so take a look at it and see what you think. GOOD LUCK

That course sounded great but I checked. Since I am getting a Business degree I have to have College algebra at level of Pre-calc or above. It doesn't count for me. And...Texas St is Revising their College algebra course so it is Unavailable at present. Thanks for thinking of me though. I appreciate the support!

Brigham Young has one that is self paced for $359 dollars. I am going to try that one. It was listed as approved...I got it from the Excelsior web site. I can go through the lessons at my own pace...it won't take me three or four months this way. Thanks..wanted to let you know.

Aaaaw Tampa,

Sorry to hear you failed this one. College Algebra is a major hurdle for a LOT of people.

I honestly think they should allow "Intro to College Algebra", or "Fundamentals of College Algebra" to be sufficient. They allow "Intro to ...." or "Principles of ...." for many other subjects including many core Business subjects, but not for Algebra. It's a shame really!

I definitely think a course is the way to go for most of us who really don't stand much chance of passing the CLEP. Like you, I will probably take the exam first, just to see. But in the end, I think I too will end up having to take a course.

Colorado Community College offers an online College Algebra course that has UNPROCTORED, UNTIMED, OPEN BOOK, quizzes and final exam. They even allow you to take each test/exam twice and only count your highest score towards your grade. It costs $649.20 per 3-credit course (for non-residents). This may be an option worth considering.

Don't worry Lynda, you'll make it....this is just a bump in the road.

Good luck,
