RE: Free Language Learning Resources - rachel83az - 07-31-2022 As far as I can tell, the Fairfax County Public Library has Mango. It's $27/year. International members can join the Orange County Library System for $125/year and that also appears to have Mango. https://www.aworldadventurebybook.com/blog/libraries-with-non-resident-borrowing-privileges Free Language Learning Resources - amrly813 - 07-31-2022 You could get a visitor's library e-card from Broward County for free, then access Rosetta Stone from there. https://www.broward.org/Library/Services/Pages/LibraryCard.aspx https://www.broward.org/Library/Research/Pages/Rosetta%20Stone.aspx RE: Free Language Learning Resources - rachel83az - 07-31-2022 Rosetta Stone is pretty terrible. And I actually paid for it! RE: Free Language Learning Resources - bjcheung77 - 07-31-2022 Thanks for this, I've actually used a few offerings from the library and these mentioned are provided... It's much better than before, Book & CD... but that was then, nowadays it's all so much easier with Audio books and digital versions online! Houston Public Library has Mango, and their card is $20 for 6 months or $40 for a year. https://houstonlibrary.org/manage-card RE: Free Language Learning Resources - rachel83az - 07-31-2022 It looks like the Broward County Library also has Hoopla. If your local library doesn't have Hoopla, give Broward County a try. Hoopla has even more foreign language resources than the local library does. Free Language Learning Resources - amrly813 - 07-31-2022 Hoopla is also a great resource. I found another library that has Mango: Carnegie Library. The fee is $30 and the card has to be renewed every 2 years. https://www.carnegielibrary.org/services/get-a-library-card/ RE: Free Language Learning Resources - rachel83az - 07-31-2022 (07-31-2022, 04:40 PM)amrly813 Wrote: Hoopla is also a great resource. Unfortunately: Quote:Out of State Residents: As a resident outside of Pennsylvania you will be asked to pay a $30.00 Out of State fee to register for a library card. This card must be renewed every two years at any CLP location. A lot of libraries are like that. You must pick up your card or otherwise complete your registration in person. Free Language Learning Resources - amrly813 - 07-31-2022 It looks like you're right. I tried registering just now, and they couldn't validate my info, so they just emailed me a temporary card. RE: Free Language Learning Resources - SweetSecret - 08-01-2022 There's an app called Language Transfer that is also good. It's basically live recorded lessons to help you understand mean points to forming words and sentences in other languages without actually knowing the word to begin with. I had a friend that worked for Rosetta Stone. He had mentioned another online software that basically allowed you to load in your own flashcards with your own photos. Apparently there's something about personalized photos of flashcards that helps as well. Finally, there's a book called Fluent Forever by Gabriel Wyner that I would recommend. I'm also on Duolingo and I really should just break down and pay for it. I think I might have tried mango through the library here once but I don't really remember being overly impressed with it. I like Duolingo because it almost intuitively teaches grammatical structure, although you can look up the rules if you want. |
