Number of Exams to get Bachelor's Degree/COSC Burbuja0512's Degree Plan - AwardTour - 11-09-2014 I see. Did you have any issues getting credit for the ALEKS Math tests? I don't see any reference to it on COSC's website. Speaking of math, it seems like there is a ton of math on your degree plan. Is that required or did you decide to go that route on your own? I am trying to avoid math as much as I can. I know very little about ALEKS but you basically get to keep taking tests until you get the score you want? With CLEP if you fail a few times then you have to wait to re-test like 6 or more months in the future. ALEKS lets you keeping trying over and over again right? I like math, so I used all of those listed in the plan above, and they were all accepted at COSC without a problem, as long as the credit is listed on an ACE transcript. The only math that is required is one course to meet the general education requirements - College Algebra or above. So the other math courses could be replaced by any subject as long as it counts as liberal arts credit. With the CLEP test, if you fail, the retake period has recently changed to 3 months. With ALEKS, you keep working through the material until you assess at 70%. I think you should give ALEKS a try. I think it is a good method both for math lovers and math haters. In fact, since you need College Algebra, you could start with Beginning Algebra and then progress to Intermediate Algebra and then you would be brushed up on your skills to take College Algebra. Then you would have 9 credits. But you could also start with College Algebra if you prefer. If it is, then compare it the the current requirements on the COSC page to see if anything has changed since then. Like Rebel points out, some exams are worth 6, others worth 3, so be sure you take that into account. If you want to use as few exams as possible, it makes sense to use as many of the 6 cr exams as you can. (and foreign language, if you can, because those are worth 12) Number of Exams to get Bachelor's Degree/COSC Burbuja0512's Degree Plan - AwardTour - 11-09-2014 I appreciate the responses. I think at this point I should probably build my own COSC degree plan and share it for review with everyone here. I will actually build 2 plans. My General Education Requirements Plan and then my concentration/major plan. ALEKS sounds the way to go when it comes to math. Have you attained your degree from COSC topdog98 or are you still working on it? I know there is a "search" function on this site but I cannot find that many COSC degree plans that are within the last year or so. Thanks again! COSC accepts FEMAs the same as FCC. Here is the list of how COSC accepts the FEMA credits: Printable Course List The ALEKS courses are just basic math courses. They are not equivalent to any of the CLEP or DSST exams listed in the COSC Master List of exams. COSC accepts them because they are approved by ACE. Number of Exams to get Bachelor's Degree/COSC Burbuja0512's Degree Plan - jani - 11-10-2014 I find the different subjects to be drastically different in difficulty level with respect to the subject GRE. I am finishing a Psych/Math double major at Excelsior. Almost all my psych credits are from the subject GRE and all my math credits are from actual classes. Even with all those math classes under my belt the math subject GRE is still harder for me than the psych GRE lol. I spent less than a year studying for that and cleared the whole major on the second attempt. It was definitively easier in my mind. I could only imagine how hard it must be to self-study from scratch for something like biochemistry, and beat 96% of everyone taking the test, almost all of whom have sat through 12-15 classes in the subject over the last 4-5 years Number of Exams to get Bachelor's Degree/COSC Burbuja0512's Degree Plan - NAP - 11-10-2014 Strange first post from Jani - a direct copy/paste from Kaz on the subject GRE. ALEKS (these 2 for this degree) will likely be general education electives or liberal arts electives, if COSC degrees have those. Burbuja's degree plan may not have included electives because those are very hard to choose for someone else. Could you please share your COSC Business Administration plan with me topdog98. Thank you. She explains the shortfall in the posting "This plan covers only the business concentration; the general education requirements are addressed via separate plan below". She only covered the college requirements. The rest of the degree must be filled with any type of college level credit to reach 120. I believe she was fluent in Spanish and received 12 credits for the Spanish CLEP exam, so if you are fluent in a CLEP covered language, you can knock out 12 credits in one exam. How you fill the remainder to reach 120 is up to you, whether you use FEMA, ALEKS, SL, Saylor or traditional classes, etc. |
