Number of Exams to get Bachelor's Degree/COSC Burbuja0512's Degree Plan

Hello all,

If I am reading Burbuja0512's Degree Plan correctly COSC Degree Plans - Degree Forum Wiki

This plan shows 23 Exams total not counting the cornerstone/capstone course. 23 exams to get a Bachelors degree seems significantly less than some of the other degree plans at EC or TESC. Other degree plans
typically show 35 to 40 Exams that need to be taken to get a Bachelors degree.

The purpose of my post is to really make sure that I am reading Burbuja0512's Degree Plan correctly as well as ask the following questions:

Again my main question is to confirm I am reading Burbuja0512's Degree Plan correctly but to also ask which Bachelors degree can be done by taking the least amount of exams? So far it looks like Burbuja0512's Degree Plan has the least amount of steps. I want to note that I am not leaving out the COSC General Education Requirements. I have added those in and the total is 23 Exams.

I can't speak well on COSC but would say that it is not possible. You need 120 credits to get a bachelor's degree and this is far short of that when completing the business and general items listed. Courses such as Micro and Macro Econ are not on that list even though they are required for a business concentration (Business Administration - Charter Oak State College) and you must then complete the more basic requirements which most likely entail more liberal arts credits or free electives. Completing the minimum for general education and the core for business does not provide enough credits but gets you completed on what will probably be the more difficult portions of your degree. Someone else may have more information for you but the other option at any of the schools is to complete what you know will work, enroll, and then lay out what is left in a degree plan. Good luck.

One could reduce the number of exams by taking the CLEP worth 6 credits ( I believe there are 5, so 30 credits. You could also bring FEMA in free of cost for about 30 more....that would only leave a total of 60 credits remaining, that's some 20 exams or classes.

This is sort of true but not quite. It probably will require fewer exams to complete a COSC degree because you can still use FEMAs. With my last count, you can use something like 23 FEMA credits for the business degree.

If you just complete the plan listed, you will be missing several requirements as pointed out by the poster above. Additionally you will need the business pre-reqs, Micro and Macroeconomics. You will need a one-credit lab. You will need to make sure that you have 30 total upper level credits, 60 liberal arts credits, and 120 total credits.

I have a plan for Business Administration at COSC with 22 tests, 6 aleks courses, 1 lab credit, 23 FEMAs, and 2 COSC courses.

I don't understand why Burbuja0512's plan would be so heavily referenced on this site if it is not accurate? My goal is to get a degree in the least amount of exams. I would love to see topdog98's plan.

Actually I do have a few more questions. Did you submit your degree plan to an advisor at COSC for approval? Do you "register" as a student then take these exams or do you take many of these exams then register as a student? Which would be better to save money?

I just set up my own plan and then started taking the exams. I did ask a few specific questions to advisers at Charter Oak before I was a student, but I didn't submit a plan to them. I can't remember exactly, but I think I didn't apply until I had around 90 credits.

It depends on how long you think it will take you to complete your exams. You can go ahead and apply once you have 9 credits, and then you have six months to enroll. If you don't, you will have to apply again.

If you think it will take you a year or longer, you should wait because of the semester fee. After you enroll at Charter Oak, you must pay the semester fee (Conn. resident $185, Non-resident $245) each semester until you graduate. The only advantage to enrolling early is having better access to advisers and locking in to their current policies (if you are worried that a future catalog will have different requirements).

If you think it will be 9 months or less, you could go ahead and apply.
