  Newlane as a beginner
Posted by: hsufeng - 04-03-2025, 02:48 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (14)

I joined Newlane in early March and have now passed the course hearings for two mandatory courses and guidance course. I would like to briefly share my thoughts and experiences with Newlane, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will answer them (if I know).
I chose the liberal arts program and already have a bachelor's and master's degree, as well as a lot of ACE credits. The basic courses are not difficult for me, but the analysis of philosophical texts is indeed difficult. I got the most transfer credits, and the formal process is still being processed, so there should be no problem? They are very generous with transfer credits and are not very strict about specific courses.
The course hearing that many people worry about was also my biggest concern at the beginning, especially as a non-native English speaker. But in fact, the course hearing is more like a daily conversation and discussion. The professor is not particularly strict about the answers to the questions. There will be many open questions and details about the previous project.

If you have prior experience and are familiar with some of the content, you will be able to get started quickly.

Personally, I like Newlane's settings very much. The existence of course hearings does allow me to focus more on the content of learning, and the professors will give enough support, which is something that many programs cannot do. They have an excellent team of professors.

Considering the price and the learning experience, I highly recommend Newlane, which is the best program I have ever had in online learning. Really self-paced, access to all courses, responsible staff, cheap prices. I would like it more if they had their own systematic course materials and videos.

As a small start-up university , it is great to have such a quality . If you don't mind about NA accreditation , this would be a worthwhile choice. Applying for additional accreditation is too expensive for such a small university , although I think it is better than many RA universities.

Master in sports or recreation management
Posted by: TennisCoach - 04-02-2025, 07:33 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (14)

Hi all, I'm back to the forum for some valuable advise. I graduated from UMPI MyPace in 2021 with BABA management & leadership. Since I work in the sports industry (head of tennis) I'm interested in pursuing a Master in sports or recreation management for employment purpose. I really wanted to enroll in a program in the country where I work (Saudi Arabia) but I didn't find any sports management master to attend in person as my main concern is doing an online program that wouldn't be accepted here by the authorities and the employer.
I found this university called Britts Imperial College University in Dubai, UAE that has partnership with Eucléa Business School Collège de Paris which is an accredited school in France and Britts Imperial offers classes in Saudi Arabia in a learning center called Big Academy. Britts Imperial says that the diploma will be awarded by Euclea Business School from France. There are videos on YT but it doesn't seem really legit. I thought about this option because it would, at least, make it look as if I went to classes in person, but the legitimacy of the school is my concern. The school said they are accepted by WES, NARIC and have an accreditation but I'm not familiar with all this. I'm looking in neighboring countries such as Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait as it's a 4 hour drive from where I live. I guess I need to be sure if they accept here in Saudi online degrees... Thanks in advance.

  Starting at Uofpeople Computer science
Posted by: Victoriasmom - 04-02-2025, 08:05 AM - Forum: UoPeople - University of the People Discussion - Replies (15)

I'm taking 1 class at a time while I transfer everything that I can in.

I'm half way through google ux certificate and just started the IBM Full stack development certificate. I know the UX certificate transfers as web development 1&2 but does the Full stack development certificate transfer in as tech electives or anything?

My goal is to take human computer interaction at WGU or the MSIT at Uofpeople ( whichever I can afford at the time) and become a UX designer/Engineer. I was going to go to UMPI for BLS minor psychology but I just don't have the money for that. I'm applying for scholarship to Uofpeople.

Google certificates are free to me and coursera monthly is a stretch but I may be able to cover with financial aid.  Sophia for a month I can swing but that's the most I can spend. I'm also doing Aleks for the required math (It's $20/month and I'll need more then the 9 weeks to learn math). So is it worth transferring in the full stack certificate and doing Sophia or is it better if I just take everything at Uofpeople? Will the IBM full stack certificate even transfer in? also have 9 GE classes to transfer in. Is there other google certifications that transfer in? Which ones are best?

I wanted to go to a self paced school to get done fast but that isn't going to happen. I'm worried about my ability to take 4 classes a semester and keep a 4.0. So I'm going to do self paced programs and transfer them in as I can. I'm disabled so I have VERY little free income and I have no financial aid left. I spent the early part of my 20's failing out of school after school. Passing 9 classes in 5.5 years. This is my last chance for a degree and to get out of poverty. I'm smart enough to do this but I have to be smart on how I go about it.

Now your probably thinking if you failed so hard when younger your "not college material" and "why bother spending the little money you have if your disabled" but even if I get my masters and I can't work traditionally (I'm hoping to land a part-time remote job even if it pays $450 a week) I can volunteer as a teacher at Uofpeople to give myself more purpose. So I'm not on a timeline but I am 40. I feel the best case scenario is that I take 2 classes a semester with the 9 week time table which would take about 3 years.

Any suggestions help sorry for the book.

  Liberty University Portfolio Credit
Posted by: smf6824 - 04-01-2025, 07:58 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (1)

Anyone ever use liberty university portfolio assessment to ascertain credit on the graduate level? If so can you break down the process you went through. On a curious note I wonder if the advanced certificate from the 100 million learner program can be applied here instead of paying ASU like 1500 or something like that.                          https://www.liberty.edu/online/credit-ex...portfolio/
