Rainbow Swirling In Endless Options - Help?
Posted by: foreverame - 04-20-2025, 06:57 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (12)

Hey, everyone. You can call me Ame. My situation's a little particular/peculiar as I already have a bachelor's, but it's in a subject I tend to call useless since I'm not really talented with it and most people just recognize it as "an Arts degree." That said, before I even came to this forum I was attracted by UMPI and many other schools. I've done so much research it hurts, and now I feel like a college advisor but without the pay upgrade I've been waiting to get for years.

I've been accepted into several master's programs, but I've left all of them because I get psyched out. It may sound like an entitled Gen Z thing, but the struggle is real here in trying to finish something.

I can't do in-person internships, and online proctoring is not my preference (I've had bad experiences with it). I also don't like synchronous/live lecture-based programs. I'm also not good with math, though I haven't done terribly in college courses (College Algebra was a C, for instance, but later I did better and got a B in Intro to Stats).

I've been chasing the perfect degree for years, but I don't think one exists. I really want to stop messing around and get a proper degree as opposed to following my passion, and ending up with zilch. (If you're curious, at the time I just needed a degree, but I'm nearing my 30s and it's time to get with it!)

Your Location: Colorado, USA
Your Age: Late 20s
What kind of degree do you want?: Either a speedy bachelor's or a master's
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 141 (passed)

Fort Hays Total Credits: 65
I'm not going to put all the classes here since there are way too many. If you have specific questions on any classes I've completed, please let me know.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: N/A - but I do have AP credits for four exams

Any certifications or military experience?: No
Budget: I don't make a lot of money and have had to go on payment/installment plans in the past. Part of the reason I need a degree I can stick with and pass is so I can make more money, like I imagine many people are in this for.
Commitments: I work, but right now I don't have many commitments to worry about outside of that.
Dedicated time to study: 4+ hours a day.
Timeline: I'm a little hazy on this, but ideally it'd be quite soon as my parents are aging and I need "the dough" to care for them and myself.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: N/A

Should you have any more questions for me, I'd be happy to answer. I may not be the quickest in responding, but I will try to monitor this thread as best I can.

Gloat Post: 49 DAYS, ever, The "Credit Sprint" of 2023
Posted by: infradata.it@gmail.com - 04-19-2025, 09:48 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

I just had my credits itemized/dated (making my excel sheets) ... I may have issues?

more like 52ish days, as it took abit to figure it out and start Google IT

Saw other ppl's gloats, wanted to join in....

/

At 42 years of age (at the time), this gave me headaches ... bad ... that lead to a high blood pressure diagnosis (unrelated causes)

Causing me to pause "cramming" for like 9 months

Dont do this....

Why?: Found & joined ADA (was on work contract in NY/NY mid September 2023 .. ADA = "American Dream Academy", AWIT = "Advancing Women In Tech", via Coursea)

Cost = None, notta, zip, or $0 (well $44 for CSM)

  • Google IT Support Professional Certificate (v2): 15 semester hours, completed 24 September 2023
  • Google Project Management Certificate (v1): 9 semester hours, completed 3 October 2023
  • ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC): 2 semester hours, completed 9 October 2023 ... not ADA, but free in "1 million in CC" drive
  • IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate: 10 semester hours, completed 9 October 2023
  • Google UX Design Professional Certificate: 10 semester hours, completed 21 October 2023
  • Real-World Cloud Product Management Specialization (AWIT): 6 semester hours, completed 22 October 2023
  • The CSM Course: 3 semester hours, completed 23 October 2023 ... not ADA, got discount code online, like $44
  • Google Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Professional Certificate: 9 semester hours, completed 25 October 2023
  • Real-World Product Management Specialization (AWIT): 6 semester hours, completed 26 October 2023
  • Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate: 12 semester hours, completed 28 October 2023
  • The Salesforce Sales Operations Professional Certificate: 1 semester hour, completed 30 October 2023
  • Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate: 1 semester hour, completed 7 November 2023
  • Salesforce Sales Development Representative Professional Certificate (v.1): 3 semester hours, completed 7 November 2023
  • Meta Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate: 2 semester hours, completed 10 November 2023
  • Foundations of Cyber Crimes (AWR-168-W)(v.2): 2 semester hours, completed 12 November 2023, ... not ADA, but free, found TEEX morning I had the Dr appt that afternoon

Note: I was pre-skilled from my career, in most of these... CSM was the worst/longest to finish (like a week+), for me

Regrets? ... Not doing the 2 "SAS Programming" courses, or more IBM certs, for "free" at the time (DeepLearning's course was is too "deep" for me)
Edit: also not canceling my membership, when it wasn't charging me ... I did get charged $77 Canadian dollars (twice, 2x months!)

Many more options now, but ADA ended awhile back ... not bad for a mid-wit (spread v112/e133/f135/c135-o129)

When I did Sophia it showed me at 98 credits on credly. After getting the badge for Google Project Management Professional Certificate (v2) it stayed  at 98 credits. Is that normal?

It should give me "

ASU Universal Learners - Now $300! ($100 discount) Until 4/30
Posted by: Captainrekt000 - 04-18-2025, 04:00 PM - Forum: Free Courses and Certificates and Good Deals - Replies (2)

Good news, everyone!

I just got a text from ASU. For a limited time, ASU Universal Learner Courses are $300 per transcription (instead of $400) with no limit until 4/30/25!

This is great for people like me who consistently finish tons of ASU courses but do not transcript them immediately (they give us up to 12 months after course completion to transcript it).

I personally like to space out the transcriptions every month so I don't get a huge bill due at the end of the month. This allows me to pay off the credit card's last statement balance in full (I use the PayPal Cashback Mastercard to get 3% cashback on all PayPal purchases, including ASU transcription costs).

I attached the text message and confirmation from ASU that my course transcription will cost $300 instead of $400.

For a 3-credit course, it will cost $25 (course start fee) + $300 = $325 total, or $109/credit.

For a 4-credit course, it will cost $25 (course start fee) + $300 = $325 total,  or $82/credit.

This will definitely incentivize me to finish my ASU Universal Learners course that I've been procrastinating on!

Edit: Unfortunately, it's important to read the course syllabus to find out when the "minimum course dates" are required before you can transcript them, even if you speed through it (It's usually 6 or 8 weeks after course start).

So, for courses that started April 5th and before (8-week minimum classes) and classes that started April 19 and before (6-week minimum classes) will likely make the 4/30/25 deadline for the $100 discount.

  StraighterLine - Bundle Discount
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 04-18-2025, 10:22 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - No Replies

Interesting, I haven't used StraighterLine in a few years after my membership expired.
I have a few classes I haven't finished yet (all the labs I purchased aren't complete as I didn't bother buying the lab kits yet).

Anyways, was on their site and found out they have bundles, each bundle will save about a 20% discount.
Link: Career Pathways | StraighterLine  And a different discount: Build Your Bundle | StraighterLine

This bundle will come in handy for those wanting the prerequisites for certain fields, such as pre-med or science!
They have Biochem, Organic Chem I and Organic Chem II now, for those looking at TESU BA Biology...

Music Double major
Posted by: lawqueen04 - 04-18-2025, 08:34 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

Hello!

I have been trying to finish my bachelor's for many years and now have decided that UMPI will be my final stop. I have 65 traditional college credits, 54 Sophia credits and the free TEEX credits. As I was drawing up my plans, I originally wanted to major in Psychology-then was going to change to BLS minor in Psychology because it would be quickest but I really want a BA not BLS. I then switched to History. When looking at minors I thought maybe I could pick up the Project Management certificate as my minor (instead of psychology). While I was completing courses at Sophia, I actually took Accounting, Project Management and Intro to Business because I had time and they didn't have any written assignments. Soooooo, after looking at both majors I believe I am interested in double majoring in History and Business Administration -Project Management. Is this possible to complete?

I would have to sign up for:
Study.com- to complete Vietnam War, UL History Elective (American Civil War), UL History Elective (Holocaust and WWII), Managerial Accounting and Change Management.
Clep- Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II, Information Systems
Saylor- Management Information Systems
Coursera(I have free membership through my state) Project Management cert, Data Analytics cert and IBM Data Analysis cert

For the History Major, I believe I would only need 5 classes from UMPI. And for the Business Administration I would need 7 classes (I want to complete the 3 courses that would transfer to the MAOL anyway so that would mean the second major is only 4 classes extra beyond the MAOL classes).
My total classes at UMPI I would need to complete are-
1 UL US History
2 UL Non Western
3 UL Pre Modern
4 UL History Elective
5 UL History Elective
6 BUS 200
7 BUS 325
8 BUS 353*
9 BUS 440*
10 BUS 469*
11 BUS 343
12 BUS 401

Completing my degree is to finish what I started 20 years ago- but if I only technically will need 2 classes beyond the 10 required and I can have 2 majors, it seems like the best use of my learning. I also have the time to spend to complete the extra Coursera certs and classes prior to UMPI- I am hoping to graduate in 2026 and I will get a raise next year- deadline is July 2026.

Does that seem likely to work?
Thank you!  Heart

Their MBA is only $5,000
Have we created a forum with the cheapest nationally and regionally accredited doctorates?
