Preparing for Micro CLEP - study questions
Posted by: swthing64 - 05-15-2006, 08:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

As I've posted in another thread, I've been studying pretty hard (or so I think) for the Microeconomics CLEP I have scheduled for this Friday. I have been studying for about 3.5 weeks now. Initially, I perused through a college Micro textbook and took a bunch of notes. It seemed time consuming but I didn't mind learning the material. Last week, I began using Instacert and also Peterson's. While I am scoring in the high 60's on average with IC, I am having difficulty with the Peterson's mock exams. I studied some more this afternoon and really thought I had a decent handle on the material (esp. since my IC scores were good) but when I went to do test 3 in Peterson's, I only got a 45. Granted in reviewing a few questions, I made some silly mistakes so perhaps I 'could' have gone over 50 (need a 50 to pass) but I was SO frustrated to see a 45! Also, the Peterson's exam seems a bit harder than the IC questions. Is that typical? It really seems like I've pounded this stuff in my head but perhaps not to the depth of getting a higher score with Peterson's. Any suggestions as I count the days to the CLEP on Friday? If I review my notes and IC, will I be okay with the lower score in Peterson's?? Help!?

  Principles of Finance
Posted by: Kiwi Lover - 05-15-2006, 07:45 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (38)

For anyone planning on taking the DSST Principles of Finance test, I wanted to give out the following 3 tips:

1. Be prepared to answer a LOT of questions about NPV (Net Present Value) and know how to calculate it.

2. There are several questions regarding Options, which I was not prepared for.

3. There were at least three questions regarding EOQ, or economic ordering quantity, which I knew absolutely nothing about! So study up on that.

I don't know how many different versions there are for each test, but I imagine that all of them would have questions on all three of these areas.

Good luck! Smile

One source for exam study guides?
Posted by: johnfoy - 05-14-2006, 11:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Greetings,

A newbie to the forum and the path of credit by exam.

Wondering if anyone can give a "rule of thumb" regarding CLEP/DANTE/etc. books publishers.

In otherwords, being a simple creature, I really do not care to research study guides for every single exam. I would much prefer to simply get my study guides from one place, ie. REA, Peterson, etc.

That said, does any one have opinions on one publisher over another? Obviously, it would be nice to find consistent material.

For my path, I have 11 CLEPS and 13 Dantes to do.

Suggestions?
Thanks
John Foy

  Best Online Resources
Posted by: steelers - 05-14-2006, 03:08 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

I thought that it would be helpful to compile a list of online resources other than IC that can be used to pass exams, especially UL (ECE) exams. For example the following online resources have been mentioned here for a variety of exams:

Wikipedia.org
Sparkchart.com

Any others?

How are those new Ethics questions coming? I think that you originally said end of March. I will be taking the ECE version shortly and would love to know if these could help. Please advise

I am planning on taking the Sociology CLEP exam in a couple weeks. I am wondering if anyone knows of any resources to help with the statistical questions. For example: All of the following statements are true regarding the relationship between age and poverty in the United States, EXCEPT…… Thanx! :o

How does this work? I went from a Minor Noble to a Squire.

Can I get the same momentum to allow me to go from College Senior to a Graduate?

Oh, if it were only that easy...

.....Taken -AND- Passed CLEP-College Mathematics yet???

I am scheduled to take this exam next Friday (5/1) and it is the VERY LAST EXAM needed for my degree. Math has never been, or will ever be a strength, yet I MUST PASS it in order to walk the walk in July

So, is there anyone here in the IC group that can lend whatever insights as to the "overall difficulty" of the exam and as to what to focus on strongly as I head into what I hope is my last week of school.

Whatever you've got will be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Thought you might get a chuckle out of seeing how some profit from Cold War history.

My husband designed these "Cold War Unicorns" for his company.
