What seemed to be your biggest challenge/concepts to master when preparing for this test? Only 6 more days 'til we bid farewell to this dragon of a CLEP test!

The question is "An asset that cost $40,000, has accumulated depreciation of $30,000 and is sold for $12,000. What is the entry for the cash account? (dr or cr , Amount)"

The answer given is "DR, $12,000." I'm puzzled as to why this is a debit and not a credit. If you sell something for $12,000, doesn't that increase, not decrease, the cash account?

What tips do yall have for doing well on the Principles of Marketing Exam?

Recommendations, meant.

I'm looking for recommended calculators for the DSST Principles of Statistics exam. My day to day calculator is a TI-85 from high school many years ago, and obviously, the TI-85 is sufficiently advanced as to be barred from the exam criteria for allowed calculators. Basically, I'm looking for the most advanced and capable calculator possible allowed under the exam (partly as I like automation, such as with nPr, nCr, etc, and partly as I just like calculators). What calculator(s) have others found best for the exam? Preferably overpowered ones. Thanks.

Acceptable calculator guidelines:
"An approved calculator is any commercially produced calculator that is battery or solar operated, silent, handheld, nonprogrammable and does not have either a full alphabetic display or a graphical display." - Candidate Information Bulletin

What's a "full alphabetic display?"

They should be clearer on what programming means, as any interaction with the calculator's software is technically programming. Finding 1+1 is programming.

Well, its that time again.

I’m now working on the CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology. This will be my tenth CLEP so the pressure is on to pass it. Of course the pressure is always on to pass, but you get my meaning.

I’ve used the search menu on the subject on IC, but haven’t really found anything that jumps out at me. I’m sure I may have missed something of value, so feel free to point anything out and or add your latest comments.

There is plenty of time, as I have found this subject a little more difficult than others I have taken, so therefore will be taking my time before I take the exam. I’m aiming for mid July.

It has occurred to me that I have taken and passed one CLEP exam each month since March. That’s a test a month for March, April, May, and June. I’m hoping to keep it up through August or September, but that could be pushing it with my work schedule.

First, I want to thank everyone for the help I've received from this site. Although this is my first post, I've been reading the various threads for a quite a few weeks. Using InstantCert and the Rudman study guides, I passed "Here's to your Health" with a 64 a few weeks ago and just today passed "Environment and Humanity" with a 58. I'm sure that one of the reasons for my success was the feedback posted here - especially those giving specific areas of concentration.

My next and final Dantes exam before graduating is "Art of the Western World" but I haven't really seen anything on this site for this one. I'm disappointed that InstantCert doesn't have flashcards for this course. I do have the Rudman book but would appreciate any tips you might have. I've heard that it's quite challenging. Please let me know if you have any advice on how to study for this one.

Hi All, looks like everyone is just moving right along and passing tests left and right. Great job, if I haven't said it before. I just took the Principles of Supervision, received a 60 and it's time for give back.

I studied using the college network, IC and peterson prep test. I would suggest going over the Principles of Management cards for IC and the peterson prep tests were very close to the type of questions I encountered on the real thing.

Know:
Definition of a leader as opposed to a manager.
styles of supervision, democratic, autocratic etc.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs especially esteem and self-actualization.
Be able to apply planning organizing, controlling (several questions & situations about controlling), directing and staffing.
Steps of planning & their order.
Difference between hygiene & motivator. i.e. Which of the following would Herzberg consider a motivator: a) salary, b) Supervision, c) responsibility, d) working conditions. answer: responsibility.
MBO & Management by exception
Halo effect, stereotyping & diversity.
Parity principle (authority & responsibility must coincide). A person using this principle would say that they had adequate authority to meet my responsibilities.
Difference between internal & external stress.
Span of control & unity of command.
Matrix type organizations understand what this entails, know that a person who works in a matrix organizations usually has at least two supervisors that they report to.
Strategic planning & Operational (tactical planning)
Line Authority & Staff Authority
Difference between job description & job specifications, also who would have final say in hiring an employee?
Conceptual, technical & human relations & be able to apply to a situation.
Type A personality & apply to situations.
Financial statement types budgets, cost analysis etc.
Diversity & managing it, being able to apply to situations.
Contengency theory & who developed it.
Hot stove rule of disciple.
Whistle blower.
Unions & how supervisors relate, what is collective bargaining.

I accidently found this forum about 2 weeks ago, and what a great accident this has been. I have read a lot of intresting stories here and like most I’m movtiavated and compel to earning a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree with a Concentration in Network Management though Excelsior College. This is a great forum with lots of helpful/useful information!

I have not applied or enrolled yet, but was planning to apply next week after I complete Cisco CCNA exam and the CLEP Principle of Marketing, However, my questions are:

1. Can I use the FEMA credits for my free electives and how many electives will I have for a BSIT degree?
2. Will they accept the “D” I have in Sociology I heard someone mention that their “D” was accepted?

My game plan is to complete my degree within the next 3 months if not sooner, but I want to make sure that I’m not duplicating additional classes. Here is what I was planning to take within the next few weeks. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or a better game plan. Like most I need a degree NOW and will take any advice that will help me get there sooner. I look forward to your advice and comments.

First, A HUGE thank you to all who have posted before and provided the resources to help me pass my tests! I will take the Principles of Accounting on Wednesday. I have studied some principlesofaccounting.com(incredible site), some IC(another incredible site ) and taken some tests. My Peterson's score was sad (40%), my Rudman scores are pretty good(80%), my practice CLEP yeilded 67%. I have four little ones and a new business so time is gold at the moment. My question is; would my time be better spent finishing the principlesofaccounting.com chapters, concentrating on IC or as many practice exams as possible. By the way I posted this somewhere else on the forum but am an amateur.
