SNHU's New President Plans to Integrate CBE
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 10-07-2024, 05:02 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (4)

Kate Rix (at Higher Ed Dive) Wrote:As president, [Lisa Marsh] Ryerson said she will continue to build out initiatives she began as provost.

One will standardize the credits associated with Southern New Hampshire courses, eventually assigning credits for proven competencies instead of time for all courses. This new “one competency, one credit” framework, Ryerson said, will make it easier for students to get credit for prior learning — even in courses that are not in the competency-based education catalog.

She said she’ll also continue to prioritize workforce development initiatives.

OnlineDegree No Longer Proctored! (For now)
Posted by: Captainrekt000 - 10-07-2024, 01:39 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (30)

Good news everyone!!!!

I was finishing up my last few OnlineDegree.com final exams and couldn't download the RPNow proctor.

I emailed customer support and they said to take the final exam by entering the password at the bottom of the exam page of each course! No proctor and no $9 fee! (For now at least!)

This makes OnlineDegree.com completely free! They offer 15 courses with 11 of them offering NCCRS credit (33 credits for free in total).

The following courses can still be taken but no longer offer credit:
- Introduction to Cooking
- Introduction to Psychology
- Education & Literacy
- Introduction to Public Health

This (33) combined with TEEX cybersecurity (13) makes 46 completely free non-proctored credits for TESU!

Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster...Personal Plan & Progress
Posted by: wkshasta - 10-07-2024, 12:09 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (17)

Hello all!
Thank you for all the help already! I've been able to find out so much information and get a head start with all the former posts on here. Finally posting on here to become an official part of the community and because I finally found a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to...but first the addendum & template....

Your Location: Colorado, United States
Your Age: 28
What kind of degree do you want?: Any Bachelors, opting for UMPI's BLS, Minor in Management
Just need to "check the box" for a degree
Current Regional Accredited Credits:
Aim's Community College:
COM 125, Interpersonal Communication - B 3 Credits
MAT 108, Technical Mathematics - A 3 Credits
PHI 113, Logic - A 3 Credits
ENG 121, English Composition 1 - A 3 Credits
ASL 101, Basic Sign Language 1 - A 3 Credits

Using the transfer equivalencies portal, only ENG 121, English Composition 1 will transfer to UMPI.
Effective Transfer Credits: 3

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
Sophia Learning
Introduction to College Mathematics - 99% 3 Credits
Ancient Greek Philosophers - 98% 3 Credits
Introduction to Ethics - 97% 3 Credits
Visual Communications - 98% 3 Credits
Spanish 1 - 97% 3 Credits
Environmental Science - 96% 3 Credits
Anatomy & Physiology 1 - 96% 3 Credits
Anatomy & Physiology Lab - 100% 1 Credit
US History 1 - 98% 3 Credits
US Government - 97% 3 Credits

Effective Transfer Credits: 28
Any certifications or military experience? No
Budget: Whatever it takes, obviously would like to keep it as low as possible but willing to pay if it makes it faster & easier
Commitments: Just recently quit my job to go through a "pivot phase." Starting flight training soon, and will probably have to start a part-time job in a month or so.
Dedicated Time to Study: Full-time
Timeline: ASAP! Hoping to max out my 90 transfer credits by the end of the year in time to apply for the Spring 1 Term at UMPI and graduate this spring in 1 or 2 terms
Tuition Assistance/Reimbursement: N/A

Now that that's taken care of I'll get to my question...
I'll begin by saying that while I'm always graded well on written assignments, I absolutely loathe them and they slow me down tremendously. Trying to finish up my GenEd requirements and I've already scheduled the Intro Sociology CLEP test later this week to avoid the two Touchstones in the Sophia Intro to Sociology course. Now that Sophia's Art History 1 has a Touchstone (which needs corrected on the Simplified GEC wiki btw) I saw on another thread that someone said to just take Art History 2 as it fills the 2E requirement as well. So, the question that I haven't been able to find an answer to is....can I actually do this? Or when I go through the transfer evaluation at UMPI are they going to tell me that I need Art History 1 in order for Art History 2 to count? I've enrolled in Art History 2 at Sophia, so I figure the worst that happens is I'm told "No, you absolutely have to take Art History 1," and Art History 2 will simply fall to an elective. I'm not looking for a "freebie" degree as it unfortunately seems some people are, so I'm willing to do whatever work necessary to achieve this goal and move forward in my life. However, I'm also willing to skip "extra" written assignments/Touchstones if I don't "need" them.

Hopefully that all makes sense, and again thank you for all the help you fine people provide!
Maybe one day I can be cool like you  Cool

Edit to add:
FWIW, on Sophia it is noted that Art History 1 is NOT prerequisite for Art History 2

  Updated Graduate Page wiki

It was extremely outdated so I updated it. Any other information it should include? Should we create additional dedicated pages to some of these graduate programs? Is this wiki page a useful enough resource that it should be a pinned post for people who are new to the graduate forum?

It seemed that for the last several years, you had to comb through the entire episode to find one good skit. All of these from this week's episode seem to be bangers.
