Just a little whining. I'm registered for Physics 1 with lab via DL this semester. I'm ordering my book and lab pack today. Uhhhhh
I registered for physics once before, but dropped when we started chapter 2. I'm NOT a math person. I've never even taken Beginning Algebra. What happens when Physics For Dummies is still to complected?!?!?!
So, I'm just whining. I need to pass. I need a B. It's my only class. Oh gosh, here we go.:ack:

Whining every now and then does all some good! I would say get a tutor or enroll in ALEKS and work on some of the basics. I would never attempt Physics without having reviewed the basics, but I'm just chicken that way. If you have to get through it a tutor may your best bet unless the book and instructor start from square one and walk you through it. Good luck! You are braver than me!!!!

:iagree: I have managed to get a Science/math degree without ever having taken Physics. I am afraid of Physics I have 45 science credits but no physics. I have an irrational fear of it. BUT if I did have to do physics I would deffinetly brush up on at least algebra first. And I have a great tutor in my house my hubby had a physics minor.
So I send you sympathy and understanding, but I know you can do this Jennifer just don't give up.

You are so brave!
I've been thinking about learning some physics to try an exam, but I don't know if I will be brave enough to do it.
It will be hard, but we have a lot of confidence in you. Remind yourself, if necessary, that it is just one of those things you need to get through in order to get where you want to go.

lol!! OMG. Not making me feel better people!
From now on, I only want to see replies about how EASY physics is... or how you'd have taken it already, except for it's just too boring and not worth your time....or that it's just too baby for your bad self. banghead
I'm so dead.

I loved physics! I could "see" it.
It's algebra that scares me!
You have done really well so far, so visualize doing well in physics!

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun. Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior. And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

This is kind of an interesting situation compared to many universities (either DL or B&M), when taken in a degree program Physics I (or 101 or w/e) nearly always requires a passing grade in prerequisite math courses.

One of the reasons I'm doing this DL is because of the absence of prereq requirements- physics, however, IS a prereq for bigger and better things. Perfect for crazy folks like me.
FWIW, I didn't say I couldn't DO beg. algebra, I said I've never taken the course. But yes, I might fail. Then you'll win. <shrug>
@Marianne- I hired a physics tutor today via Craigslist!! Super excited. He also tutors chem, the fun is endless.

Okay, here we go:
Rule #1: You can do it.
Rule #2: Refer to Rule #1.
I did not enjoy physics when I took it in my earlier incarnation as an engineering major--until we got to the labs. Am now enjoying it a great deal now that my 14yo is taking it in school; we talk about it a LOT.
See the movie October Sky. Remember that it's not brain surgery, it's just rocket science. And refer to Rule #1. Physics is like math. My way of "learning" math was to follow the procedure for solving the problems (and get the right answers), the why will sink in later. And it usually does.
Good luck!
