virus

I have a new computer virus that is p*ssing me off. It logs in as a guest, so I can't log in as myself- and the pop up is in the foreground- so all of my screens that are open are behind this crap. Also, as a guest, I have to sign in to everything since it won't save my cookies.
I have the free Microsoft Security Essentials, but that's not working. It says it removes it- must restart to finish cleaning-so, at restart, I get put back in as guest then boom! There it is!
I already used up my free Mcafee trial, so I'd have to buy it...which is fine if I can't find anything for free. Anyother suggestions? I'm going batty.
Before someone gives me the name of somewhere to download something- is there some way I can find this myself and delete it?? It isnt' in my add/remove programs. Thanks!

Hey Cook,
Try an online scanner that might clear it. I take it you dont have a preloaded virus scanner or cd to load from.
So try online they usually clear up the trick. This one is Panda Virus and is pretty well known.

I'm no virus expert, but I will second TrendMicro House Call. It is free, and seems to work much better than most virus scanners.

I concur with trend micro house call. It takes a while to run but is pretty good.

If you can, go to pchelpforum.com, download hijack this and post your log. They are very helpful. They have a few other things they want you to do also.

Good luck. I had a virus consume a week of my free time once before I finally got rid of it.

AVG is a good program, but be prepared: It, like most anti-virus programs, is annoying. I prefer avast! over AVG as far as the program itself goes, but avast! is only free for a month or so until you have to buy it. AVG's basic version is free forever.

Now you have over half a dozen anti-virus programs to research! Big Grin
