US vs foreign tech workers (moved from Study.com New CS Courses)

I saw the conversation switch from lack of programming talent to lack of STEM workers. Those aren't the same. There are many openings in some STEM fields, but computer programming is a declining field due to outsourcing and offshoring.

Employment of computer programmers is projected to decline 7 percent from 2016 to 2026. Computer programming can be done from anywhere in the world, so companies sometimes hire programmers in countries where wages are lower. This ongoing trend is projected to limit employment growth for computer programmers in the United States. However, the high costs associated with managing projects given to overseas programmers sometimes offsets the savings from the lower wages, causing some companies to bring back or keep programming jobs in the United States.

People here talk about the courses mechanic, business, gen-ed, CS, etc, we talk about how to achieve the courses and the difficulty of the exams, and I think it's a reasonable conversation to have. You might think people should live CS when doing those courses and that's fine, but insulting people because they talk about the course mechanics on a degree forum is just stupid.

I know many people with a BS in CS and even MS in CS that works in software, because, (shocker), they like doing software better than working in machine learning or AI.

It's the second thread @armstrongsubero is turning into this kind of ridicule conversation... There is no arguing with him, he knows! And like he said he is entitled. Personally, I'm done with that.

This whole little detour sickens my stomach. There is no call to question either the intelligence or the drive of any group of people and gloating is simply beyond the pale. I have been working in software engineering for over 30 years and have witnessed first hand the changes in the industry. I can tell you that there is no difference in the drive and passion of engineers coming out of our universities, immigrants or not. A lot of work HAS moved overseas, NOT because U.S. programmers are less talented, but for costs, as noted. Sometimes the work is substandard because of problems managing the projects or just because the company pushes so hard on costs that they end up with junior programmers. It is NOT because overseas programmers as a group are less talented.

Reading some of the things on this thread boiled my blood a bit, but ultimately I'm responsible for myself, my thoughts, my feelings and my actions. I apologise if I contributed to derailing this thread. I will not continue any more of these petty arguments. Everyone have a good day.

if you're the boss of a tech firm. would you hire a developer for $80k ~ OR, you could get 4 of them overseas for 20k a pop !
