Haven't introduced myself. E-5, US Army, 68X (mental health) stationed in Miesau Germany. Trying to finish my Bachelor's. Current environment is not very conducive to Soldiers enrolling in college. Couple months ago I had my Det Sgt discuss with my Soldier that she shouldn't schedule her proctored exams during duty hours. Sad Made her schedule them during that time anyway. College is the only way out. Wink

Maybe it is just me, but asking a question about the death of servicemembers is not an appropriate question to ask on a discussion area catered FOR military. You want stats, go look at CNN or any one of the dozens of BS media agencies out there...

I'm an E4 in the Army National Guard, just got back from Deployment #2. I've passed Social Sciences/History and Humanities General Exams, I have English Comp General Exam and Western Civ I and II exams next month. I'm prepping for Bachelor's #2, and these tests have got to be the best way to pass the few Gen Eds I don't already have. Just wish the Guard covered the tests the way they do when you're on Active Duty.

NOA - Both those universities aren't bad, but try AMU as well, I think more credits will transfer from that school to a physical college than most online courses do - plus, they have a number of degree programs focusing on the military itself, i.e. military history, homeland security, military studies, etc. if that's what you're interested. If you're going for a business degree, you probably won't go wrong with Excelsior. It depends on what you want. But I'll do at least one graduate certificate with AMU, specializing in either Land Warfare or Asymmetrical Warfare.

RUNMYTA Wrote:Army E-7, currently in Iraq for deployment #2. Recently graduated OCS and my unit was activated 3 weeks before I graduated and I had to deploy as an E-7, but I will pin on my butter bar after this deployment.

THAT sucks! I was deployed twice during my time at the U Iowa, so when I go back to college I'm going to Norwich in Vermont, where I'll contract with ROTC and finally have at least three uninterrupted years in college. I was supposed to graduate in May 2005, but thanks to the deployments its become May 2009 at the earliest.

PS - Anyone in here a Norwich grad? I'm not looking forward to Rookdom, but I figure that if I put up with a year's worth of shit deployed with an infantry battalion, six months putting up with mouthy 19-year-olds can't be nearly as bad. I hope, that is.

I retired from the Air Force in 07 after 21 years. Stick with it, it pays in the end. I work for a federal contractor now and most of us are ex-military because we have the clearances they need.

This summer, I also retired from the Air Force after 20 years. I would have to second staying with it - or for some, deciding early after one term to move on. Once you are close to halfway, probably not bad to stick it out and get that pension and benefits then starting somewhere else.

And for Pete's sake, relevant to these forums - use those education benefits! I spent my last three months of terminal leave taking all the *free* CLEP/DANTES and ECEs I could because I put it off my whole career. I ended up taking and passing around 20 tests (thank you, IC!) but should have done it when I was younger...
