generic degree from COSC or TESC
#1
I have a coworker who has an associate's degree and random other hours for a total of about 80 hours. She wants to get a degree in something. I suggested history at TESC because there are so many CLEP and DSST history tests. She hates history.

She just wants a degree. It can be in anything except history. It can be a general studies degree. She does mainly HR activities. It appears that all of the TESC BBA options require accounting. I don't see her being successful in accounting courses. I noticed TESC has an option to create a custom degree. Could she create what would essentially be a BBA in HR without any accounting courses? Is a custom degree something that sounds good on the website but is administratively difficult and painful to pull off? She doesn't want to have to fight battles over rules and policies.

What do you suggest she major in?
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I

470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition

Another option she could look at is a Liberal Studies degree at EC with an Area of Focus (like a minor) in something business-related. The Area of Focus is 15 LL and 6 UL credits in a specifc subject.
AS in 2010 and BS in 2013 at Excelsior College - Transcripts and Costs
MS Biostatistics in 2019 at Texas A&M University - Graduate School

Sharing Credit-by-Exam* and Help for Veterans
Resources Used - 20+ Exams Passed & General GRE
Practice Tests - Available for CLEP and DSST

Depending upon what credits she already has the quickest/easiest degrees to test out of at TESC are BA in liberal studies and social sciences.
BA in Social Science-TESC

TESC has the BS and BA in Learner Designed Area of Study, and COSC has the BA and BS in Individualized Studies. The next best option for HR would be psychology. One can completely test out of the psychology degree at TESC with the exception of the required capstone.

The Human Resources degree at COSC only requires Financial Accounting. The other courses are Management and HR related.

Human Resources - Charter Oak State College

The other option would be to select two areas she would like to study, and create a degree plan from that for the Individualized Studies concentration.

If she already has 80-ish hours, she might have a lot of credits toward a major or concentration already. And if she happens to have 90 hours, she might be a candidate for a BGS from Athabasca without having to take more classes. Do you happen to know which classes she already has?
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.
83 hours of ACE-worthy credits
