#1
So, I sent all my various credits from a many checkered life of a mid 40's returning student(even some CLEPs!) off to TESC to see about a BS in Liberal Studies. It comes back that I need to take 10 more credit hours, and they all are in the following section.

> Complete 18 semester hours from any of the following
> General Education subjects: Humanities, Social Sciences,
> Natural Sciences or Mathematics.
!! Exception
Credit coverage in Natural Sciences and Area of Study.

I am not an enrolled student yet, it's sort of expensive as an out of stater so they say they won't let me talk to an advisor unless I'm enrolled. I was wondering if anybody here had any idea what might be accepted for those 10 credits? Looking at the CLEP exams, there's an Inntro Psychology and Intro Sociology that I might could take if they'd count, as well as a History of Wester Civ II possibly, though I hear it's a bit tougher test. Though that only gives me 9 of the 10 needed. Any other suggestions as to what might fit? Or if these would even fit at all?

(edited) I was just looking at the CLEP website, there is a Human Growth and Development exam, while my current university doesn't seem to accept it, does anyone know if TESC will in one of the right areas?

Thanks,
Mitch

TESC does accept the Human Growth and Development CLEP, but since you have so few credits left to earn, I don't know if they would grant you the degree through them unless you did their internet classes, which are rather expensive.
I'm going to be taking 3 internet courses with TESC, and CLEPing the rest of my way to a BA through them, so they may let you.

Hold up. TESC does not have a residency requirement- meaning you can transfer in all 120 credits. You don't need to take anything with them.

The gen ed elective requirement of 10 credits is outstanding. That means any class (CLEP) from natural science, math, social science, or humanities will count. Some exams (like Spanish) are 12, so in that case, you'd be 1 exam away from graduation! Likely, you'll do a combination of the 3 an 6 credit exams and end up exceeding the 10 credits by coming in with 12- but that's no big deal.
There is no way to know what CLEPs will work for you yet, since you have already got at least 110 credits. See, you can't duplicate credit. So, let's say you have taken Psych101 before, then the CLEP Intro Psych would duplicate that and not count. If you copy/paste your whole eval several of us here can help you zero in on the CLEPs that don't duplicate which leaves you with picking from the ones that are left over. There are also DSSTs, same thing-different company-different options.
Also, I'd go ahead and enroll if you want to graduate from TESC. Clearly, you are within a month of graduating (or a weekend depending on your motivation lol) so you won't be wasting your $ at this point. Also, you might want to run your CLEP plan past an advisor just to be sure. Lastly, TESC has insane graduation deadlines- you might have to file now to graduate in 6 months!
Congrats, you are close!

Thanks for the response..
I haven't taken a lot of the easier intro courses so I have a lot of options available...

I just took and passed the clep for intro sociology today.. that's 3
planning intro psych next that will bring me to 6 hours
then probably human growth and development will bring me to 9
then probably do intro educational psych for the last 3 to push me over the 10...

the nice thing about all of these cleps is that they are interrelated and build on each other a bit. Sociology took a week to get ready for, will try for psych in about 10 days, then one of the last two by the end of the month. Current plan is to pay TESC in December and then start the petition for graduation once they get all my clep transcripts Smile I sorta talked with an advisor (they won't really talk to you until you are a paid and registered student) and was told that any humanities or social science would count so my sociology and psych clep would work, I'm guessing these other two would as well.

Do you have the 18 upper level classes that they require?

yes, I have all the upper level credits they require. I submitted in July an application and credit evaluation. So it's after the changes on upper level credit requirements. I have a lot of 3000/4000 level stuff from my brick and mortar schools. Just not enough of any one thing for a degree

all I needed was the 10 hours I posted for Smile At least they are all lower level and I can feed them with cleps. Hopefully there won't be any last minute hangups...

Just a quick clarification about electives requirements from TESC....

As far as electives are concerned, I need 6 more credits from General Ed electives and 6 more credits from Free Electives. Jennifer said that General Ed simply means that my courses (CLEP tests) must be subjects related to math, science, humanities, and social sciences? What about English Composition?

For example, I've already passed the CLEP English Comp test, but what if I want to take the Freshman Comp test as a Gen Ed elective? Will that count or not?

***EDIT*** Never mind....I just discovered the TESC College Catalog online and the English Comp and Freshman Comp are considered to be the same course.
