cosc / learning counts inquiry
#1
Does anyone have experience transferring Learning Counts credits to COSC? I know they accept them; I would just like to hear from people who have been through the process what it was like.

Thanks very much!

I'm pretty sure it's exactly like transferring any other credit source into COSC.

Not a lot of people here have much experience with Learningcounts.org (because it's still relatively new, and a bit pricey) so if you apply, it would definitely be helpful for others if you share your experiences with the forum Smile

I've done portfolios with Learning Counts already. It's only $125 for a 3-credit class. I completed my intro courses through Straighterline and use the portfolios for upper level credit. I don't consider that expensive at all. Some people say it's time consuming but I'm not one of those people who can prepare for an upper level exam in a few days. However, once I got the hang of the portfolio process, I had no problem completing each one in a week or less.

My plan to go to TESC didn't work out so I'm now reconsidering my first choice, COSC. Their advisement process is a little different, though. I got an evaluation some months ago and they don't keep updating your evaluations as you rack up credits so I haven't gotten an evaluation since I completed upper level credits. If enroll, of course, then I will plan my curriculum with whatever advisor I'm assigned to. I've never heard anyone on the forums speak about portfolios at COSC so I was wondering about how it went.

ACE stopped accreditation for the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (LearningCounts.org) on 6/30/2013. National College Credit Recommendation Service now gives accreditation to Learning Counts. First check to see if COSC accepts NCCRS. Once your portfolio is ready LearningCounts will submit a transcript to the school for you. If you have a problem then go to NCCRS's website and fill out an assistance form, NCCRS will email the school and verify the transcript on your behalf.

Thanks, Akai. I am already quite familiar with Learning Counts, as I have completed 4 portfolios already. But every school does things differently. When I completed the portfolios it was with the intention of transferring to TESC. TESC has a portfolio database that COSC and Excelsior don't have. My Learning Counts advisor told me that TESC was easiest to work with because they were more open to credit by portfolio. Both TESC and Excelsior are affiliated partner universities with Learning Counts, but the process is still very different at Excelsior.

COSC is not a partner school but accepts NCCRS credits. But I was wondering if anyone on the forum had actually transferred Learning Counts credits to COSC or completed portfolios while attending COSC.

COSC should accept it, considering that they even have their own PLA program in place.

However, I'll send you a PM with the Registrar's Office email address, so you can ask them directly Wink

Yes, they do accept the credits. I just was hoping someone else here had already done portfolios with COSC.
