confused about Excelsior degree plan
#1
The transcript analysis says:

ARTS AND SCIENCES
Arts and Sciences Upper Level, 9 credits needed

Totals listed above must include the following requirements:
General Education Requirements

Written English, 6 credits needed
Information Literacy, 1 credit needed
Capstone Course, 3 credits needed

At the bottom of the review there are these notes:

BIOL 1322 Basic Nutrition
NUTR 3334 Advanced Nutrition
Courses excluded, course content reviewed upon enrollment

Upper level credit for a literature course was given. Why wouldn't that count toward the written English requirement?

The goal is to test out of everything possible.

Depth 2 could be met with 3 more hours of upper level history. It has to be from something other than DSST Civil War and Reconstruction because credit for that has already been received. How is the revised DSST Russian History exam? The previous one was difficult and not passed. Would UExcel World Conflicts Since 1900 be easier?

I think EC is the same as TESU in that the Written English requirement can only be met with English Comp I & II. Not sure how the CLEP works there any longer since they removed the equivalencies from their website ages ago (they used to have a whole transfer guide that was very helpful). If they won't take CLEP, that leaves the UExcel English Comp exam for $470 + Fees. You can also try the TECEP exams, or SL.

The classes I have that counted for the writing requirement are Expository Writing and Argument Based Research from a cc.

It's too bad it didn't count, but you should have plenty of options. I would ask about the CLEP, TECEP, Straightliner, etc... I'm sure one of those should work. I'm almost certain Straightliner will, it is on their course equivalency guide. There is also Tor College. And DSST has a Tech. Writing test. You definitely have options.

Remember Tor College for the Information Literacy- cheap way to go.

They might be waiting to see syllabus for those two nutrition classes?! Just a guess because they asked for a syllabus from one of my courses. I would think something with "BIO" in front of it would be a shoe-in though.

The Excelsior general catalog says that AP tests satisfy the written English requirement. That's great news, the AP transcript has been ordered and it will solve that problem. That leaves the depth and upper level requirements.

Here's the revised plan:

1. DSST or UExcel history to complete Depth 2 and provide 3 of 9 upper level hours
2. DSST Here's to Your Health to provide 3 of 9 upper level hours IF they won't grant credit for the upper level nutrition course (won't know until actually enrolled)
3. Capstone course to provide to complete the 9 upper level hours

Do you get to choose the Capstone instructor? Who is easy?

DSST Here's to Your Health does not count as Arts and Sciences; it counts as upper level Applied Professional.
DSST Business Ethics and Society counts as upper level Arts and Sciences though.
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.
83 hours of ACE-worthy credits
